The black/silver color was just from being blown. It should pull out, just wear gloves.

It would really help if I had a picture to shoe me what to grasp to pull it out. Why oh why does everything have to be so complicated. Haven't a clue as to what I am doing

I replaced mine with a 12v truck domelight. much brighter mounted it to same bracket with self tapping screw and used existing power lead.

Mine blew after about 15 minutes as well. I was rather turned off that it blew so quickly. I think it is a 4 watt bulb and I replaced it with a 7 watt with no negative effects to the wiring that I can tell.

I used one of these LED lights: light

one screw ( don't lose it ! ) secures the wiring cover
turn off power (easiest way is to flip main house Battery switch PLUS no shore power )
red wire goes to white wire bundle ( B+ )
black wire goes to lower terminal of light switch (light switch pops out by pressing tabs in back)

to keep light from glaring off range and/or glass range cover I positioned it about 2" back from aisle edge of hood between the wiring cover and the sink end of the hood

it does get quite warm, so I only use it when really needed
