Unwanted access to Pass Thru Compartment

We recently purchased a 2019 233RBXL with a Murphy bed up front. Under the bed was wide open to the lower pass thru compartment. With the bed down only small gaps were visible but with the bed up and sofa in place, the wide area behind the sofa was a straight drop into the pass thru.

The main issue we found was this provided an entry place for mosquitoes and gnats. Opening the pass thru to load/unload outdoor furniture, etc. let the bugs straight into the trailer.

I removed the sofa and installed a thin plywood filler to cover the space but am now wondering if this was a defect or most others with front Murphy beds came this way?

Our '17 232RBXL is the same. I'd call it a design defect. It does allow access to the pass-through, but you're right about the bugs. Thin plywood is a great idea. Thanks!
