Don't want to bump this thread to death but my vertically challenged wife complained about reaching the switch so I did this today. I'm sure she'll replace the string with something more to her liking.

Is that the 3 speed fan? If so how do you select speeds/directions now?

No it's single speed. Don't see why it wouldn't work on a multi-speed with a little wring and a new hole. Just preset the speed you like and put the new switch between the power source and the original speed selector switch.

Mine has 2 vents as well. I added the largest comp fan I could find to my bathroom vent. It even had 4 led lights on it. Moves enough air to feel it coming in under the door. And it's super quite.
