Water heater

Wanting to know if there's any truth behind if there is a reason people tell me to leave my anode out of my water heater for the winter

I don't know if there's truth behind their reason since I haven't heard their reason but I don't leave mine out. I put mine back in but not tight - to keep out bugs, dirt, foreign objects.

I take it out, drain the tank, clean the threads and use teflon tape on the anode threads before putting back in. Simple.
