What is this light between my water pump and water heater switches?
I have this little red light right between my water pump and water heater switches. It reads "DSI FLT". Didn't see any thing about it in the manual. Does it have to do with the water pump or water heater? I think I seen it flash on for a short time last time I switched the water heater on. Maybe something to do with a filter? I'll try to post a pic!

I believe it is the Direct Spark Ignition Fault Light for the water heater and will illuminate if the water heater fails to lite.

My light comes on when I first turn on the WH. Once the heater ignites the light will go off. If it does not go off within a minute or so, I turn off the WH, wait a minute or so and re-try.

The DSI control board will allow 3 start attempts before lockout.
There is a 15 second propane flush before DSI spark. It will take time for the "Flame Rod" to detect the ignition. If it does all is well and the red light will go out. If not, the red light stays on and 6.8 seconds later and another flush/DSI cycle will start again. This will happen 3 times and can take about 2 minutes to complete all 3 attempts.
While "a minute or so" and 2 minutes sounds like "picking nits"; stand in front of that panel waiting for the light to go out with a stop watch.
It can seem like forever.

I was told it stands for "DSI.FAULT". The red light illuminates if the DSI does not ignite the WH gas after three attempts as previously mentioned.

If the dealer didn't tell you about the DSI/propane option, he may have also omitted the part about the electric heating element portion of the water heater too (if equipped with an applicable type Suburban brand water heater).
This may help:

Good point!
Or that they can be used together "gas and electric" for faster hot water recovery.

I've picked up allot of good things from that section, thanks to all. Allot from my old 2007 Keystone TT has carried over to this new Salem, but theirs still allot that has changed over the years. Glad to be a member of this forum.

B-47,
That is true and some installations actually label the light "Fault"; but it is more than that. It lets you know that 12 volt power is going to the control board, the unit is calling for heat, and the flame has not started yet. It does not say "it won't"; just that it has not.
In fact, even with the water hot, that light will illuminate by itself when the water cools to the low point thermostat and calls for heat. Once the flame lights it will go out by itself.

Ok - thanks for the additional information. I never look at it after the initial start up of the WH during the day so unless it happens to illuminate momentary and I see it after the initial start up I won't see it.
