"WHOA" What a Maiden Voyage it was!
Finally got a chance to take the new TT out on its Maiden Voyage this weekend and it turns into a Horror Flick type outing.
Pulled out of our drive and about 10 miles down the road we were side slammed by a Wild Turkey shooting out from the timber along side the road. I just happened to look at the side mirror when it happened, and it wasn't pretty. A big Bam, Bounce, and feathers everywhere, stuck to the TT from what I could see from the drivers seat.
Traveled a few miles up the road and we were able to pull over carefully, and dreading what we are about to see, to inspect the damages. Oh YUK! Not a pretty sight, and stunk to high heaven. Pretty shades of red and yellow cascading from front right hand corner back to the door, with wedged feathers inside the awning arms. Needless to say that Turkey won't see another day.
What a moment it was. Luckily the only damage was a small dimple on the front corner. I can say I am thankful at least for the way the bird hit us.
Long story short, before getting to the CG we stopped off and bought another big bundle of paper towels. We knew we were going to need them for some serious TT bonding time. It took us about 3 hours total to get the remains off and then to make matters worse the stench lingered for the rest of the day. Did I say "YUK" already?
After a while of cleaning we chuckled between us and thought, if others were watching us they probably thought were just being anal with our new TT getting the dust off.
On our way back home this afternoon, and unfortunate as it was, we seen the Turkey lying in the ditch. He / she surely was a big one.
This is one Maiden Voyage that will forever remain at the top our camping memories list.
Other than that, it was a perfect Maiden Voyage!

I know people that would have backed up and grabbed the remains. If not for stuffed turkey at least a turkey sandwich.
Glad no one was hurt and nothing more than a dimple for damage!

Sometimes it's more adventure than fun. Glad to hear damage was minimal.

Amen to that! Adventure is 1/2 the fun.
It's all good now. I think my pride was more bruised at the time than the TT with its little imperfection. But like we said, it will forever be a conversation "dimple". Makes for great story telling around the

x4 on picking up the bird. Since it was already tenderized, would have made some great sandwiches.
Good luck on future adventures. The "fun" is just beginning!!

Wow Briorick... Deja vu... we hit a turkey on our first outing this past weekend as well.
Glad to hear you fared OK.
Ours run out in front of us on a 4 lane highway and I thought for sure we were going to splat it on the highway but at the last instant, it tried to fly.
Went up over the front of the truck, into the windshield and bounced dead center onto the front of the 5er. All I could see in the mirror was feathers and the big bird flopping in the truck bed.
As we tried to pull off the road, it came to its senses and flew out of the truck bed into the median where I could see it was still flopping as I pulled off the road to inspect the damage.
Luckily, no damage.
I couldn't believe it for as hard as it hit.
I would have been sick to see a hole in the front of our brand new camper (3rd time out) and even sicker eating that thing had it caused damage!
Hopefully that kind of excitement is over for both of us!

Now that's a great camping story! We have friends who had one come through the windshield of their DP on their first long trip. Just an awful experience (for the turkey too).

What a story!
I'm married to a Czech, he'd been grilling that bird while washing the TT ;-)
on the other hand, maybe Mother Nature was 'christening' your new toy?
Nice of the service to offer turkey recipes too ;-)

Sorry to hear about your bio-hazard cleanup. As I read your post, I got a visual that made me start to chuckle.
That is my kind of luck. Have you given the new TT a name? This is an opportunity. LOL

5picker.....Yep I'm kind of having a flashback moment, envisioning your turkey incident too, as I read your unfortunate turkey encounter. Definitely unexpected. Never in a million years would I have ever thought this would happen. Glad to hear you too received no damage also. Luckily for the two of us the only things that were hurt momentarily were our pride feelings. AND, thankfully the moments we had were just.... "Phew, no great damage moments". YES! Chalk it up to, "we got lucky"!
I am with you on that kind of excitement. That's way too much fun for my liking.
