Looks more like coffee stains than rust. As for the stain around the screws, replace them with stainless steel.

They aren't coffee stains.

They are 100% rust stains. As stated before FR didn't use stainless on the screws used to attach the door frame and locking brackets for the slam latch. It is actually that way on all the compartments. I think it looks like coffee because the rust stains get diluted with water when it sits being stored. Just the nature of the beast. I replaced my screws with stainless! They are a lot more than the cheap stuff that FR puts in.

The outside kitchen door on our 2011 829RKSS did the exact same thing.

I removed the thumb latches and the barrel locks and found out that rain water was getting into the left thumb latch and causing it to rust. Some was actually getting all the way inside the door and running down the backside of the door.

I found the culprit to be the hole they drilled for the thumb latch not being straight. This caused the gasket to not set flush with the outside surface of the door. I just replaced the thin factory gasket with a thicker one and all's been good so far.

Hope your resolution is just as easy.

Monty - does your outside kitchen have the slam latches on it?
No it doesn't. May be coming from barrel locks too!

I also read regarding the screws, they can be painted before they rust to protect them. stainless steel sounds best. mine is a 365saqb sierra, 7 months old and ALL the screws UNDER the fifth wheel hitch area that hold up the fiberglass are rusted!

I noticed that the screws on my threshold on my 2013 SS were leaching a rust colored matetial, I replaced them with stainless screws. Further checking showed door hing screws going the same way, replaced them all with stainless steel screws, another FR shortcut that we need to fix.
