371REBH Bunk Room Bottom Bunk Options

We are about to place our order for a 371REBH and wanted to know more about the bunk room bottom bunk options. From what I can tell, there are three options: a fixed bed, a jackknife sofa/bed and a sofa that folds out into a bed (much like the sofa in the rear lounge). Our middle child (12yrs) will be sleeping on it. I like the look of the regular sofa that folds out into a bed or the jackknife sofa.

Those of you who have the 371REBH, what option did you choose and why?

Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll have more questions coming!

I would go for the trifold sofa over a jackknife one 1000 times out of 1000

We got two solid bunks build at 42" with a trundle that pulls out as a third bed. We also got a second window installed for the main level bunk.

Didn't want a sofa bed that would have to be folded away every time you bring the slides in. We also got the bunk room door to swing into the room as opposed to have it swing into the kitchen.

I'm leaning toward the fold out sofa. I think they will enjoy watching tv and playing games at night while sitting on the sofa.

We went with the tri-fold sofa. We had the jackknife in our last RV, and it was getting small for an 8 year old. Tri-fold is bigger and much better padding than the bunk option. Only down side is that you have to take off the bedding to use fold it back to a couch. Not a big deal to us. Plus if you find you have company sleeping over you can easily for a couple kids on it.

I do like the idea of having the bedroom door open into the bedroom. I never realized it was an option (it wasn't on the factory order sheet). It is kind of annoying that it peers into the kitchen when fully open. Maybe a mod I can look into in the future.

I just did some quick measurements. Now I see why the bedroom door swings out. It it swung in it would not close when the tri-fold sor is out in a bed. It catches the corner by about 2 inches. This would probably not be an issue with the jack knife of bunk beds. I guess you could just leave the door open when the bed is made.

Changing the door to swing in looks like an easy mod. You just flip the hinges and the jamb stops. Of course you would need to drill out a new striker catch hole and figure out a way to cover the old hole.

Trifold sofa is 100 times better than jack-knife.

Only thing is the door can't be opened with slide outs in. But definitely nice to have it this way while using the trailer.

What does your 12 year old want? He/she will be the one sleeping on it.

Before you take the leap, check the weight bearing capacity of any bunk option. When we looked around, we were surprised that many are no more than 150 pounds.

We have a Silverback rear living and our son who weighs about 110lbs sleeps great. No problem with storing, etc.
I would AVOID a jackknife sofa as the center split is nearly impossible to get
Comfortable on.
Just say'n from experience.

We went ahead and ordered our 371REBH with the pull out sofa. I think they'll like having a sofa at night to watch tv and play games on.

We did the fold out sofa, But we also removed it so that we could put in our daughters crib instead. But we felt the sofa would be a better option for future use once she old enough to use the bunk..

We have a 6 year old and the jackknife is working fine and is more convenient to fold up, I think, than a tri-fold.

But I had no idea you could get a second bunk installed, much less a second window! Can that be done after market (second window?) how much extra$ did it cost.

Denali, what year is yours? We just bought a 2016 and the bunk door opens outward, and we also don't have the bottom window.

Ours is a 2016 as well. We special ordered the door to swing in, over sized bunks 39 or 43"... Can't remember and the second window at the bottom bunk.

Not being able to go into that room while travelling isn't a big deal. If I would really need something I could use the slide selector to just open that room.

Some also have a futon option that is either a sofa or a huge bed, or completely removed very easily.

Like this:

You can turn them sideways, too.

I love your layout and it will work well for our family of 5. How did you go about special ordering the custom bunks and window? Did you go through a dealer or did you contact forest river directly. Sorry if this is a basic question, but I am new to the rv camping and am looking to by this model unit.
