the wiring to your current 30 amp box will not work with a 50 amp. You need to start from scratch

You can make this as hard as you want with ways to explain this to your electrician but if you just tell him to install a nema 14-50R receptacle and wire it the only correct way to wire it you'll be fine. This is also the same receptacle that any typical 4 wire range will plug into.
