Fridge fell

The residential refrigerator tipped over in our new 2016 Sandpiper 389rd. We have had many campers and lots of issues but this is a new low. We pulled into our driveway from a camping trip, heard a funny sound coming from the slide and found the fridge spewing yogurt and resting on the opposing slide wall. Camping World will not even look at it for 2weeks. Does anybody have the number of the Forest River rep for central Florida?

We had a problem with our air conditioner going out when on vacation three months after we got our TT. We called and found a mobile RV repair guy and went to his place of business. He was on the phone with the Dometic dealer and had authorization to replace it under warranty. He replaced it and we were on our way with a new air conditioner within the hour. What I'm trying to say is that perhaps someone else can get you a new fridge and repaired under warranty without waiting for Camping World.

Before you take your unit in, find out where a similar unit is located and take a look at how the refrigerator is mounted...take pictures.

You should expect to find that the mfg has a standard way of securing the refrigerator at the top and bottom so it won't fall out when your rig is moving. For example, some refrigerators are secured at the bottom with screws in the refrigerator frame - in such a way that the integrity of the refer is not compromised.

Then take a look at your installation and see what was used to secure the refrigerator at the top and bottom. You should know what should have been done before you take your unit in and what caused the failure.

Call the refrigerator mfg and see if the warranty has been voided, whether or not the unit continues to function. You may need to insist on a new refrigerator being installed. I would guess that even if it is still functioning, it may fail much sooner than anticipated.

CampingGator's advice is good as I would avoid camping world.

The same thing happened to me. They put a new fridge in mine supposedly and then did a half ass job of securing it with a strap that I have to attach to hold it in place during transport. Not pretty but works.

Excellent advice! Our first choice is always independents. Always double check, but most can do warranty work.

If Independent is a "Authorized Repair Facility for the (Item) needing repair" that is Exactly who I would use! They can deal Directly with the (Item MFG) unlike the RV Dealer who Must go through the Hoops of F/R and also Send Pics as well as Acquire a Authorization Number "Before" work is Performed! The outcome seems to be "Much Faster and Satisfactory" using a Knowledgeable Person! Youroo!!

No problem with mine yet but food for thought, a removable strap somewhere around the top might be an inexpensive solution also would help to keep the frig doors closed right now I use a door lock that you buy in the baby department at Target.

one of the draw backs to adapting stick house appliances to moving platform, good luck I hope you find someone to repair it.

I get mine back tomorrow I'll shoot a pic and post it. But all it is is 2 clips screwed to the framing and almost like a gym bag shoulder strap that clips on to those with a clasp in the middle where the shoulder pad usually is. It goes through the door handles. I still have to use a second strap at the lower end through the fridge doors and the freezer drawer to keep the freezer drawer from sliding open. I haven't looked for a race behind to keep the fridge from tipping but I can only imagine it isn't there because I can shake it freely when the strap isn't affixed.

Ill go in a min in ours and shoot a pic of the rear brace. Sorry for the typo in the last message.

Idk if you can get your dealer to add it or not. I would hate to have the strap for a fix myself.

As much as a person pays for our rigs there should be no reason for straps thru handles, What if your partner wants to get something out of the fridge while in motion. There is no reason I can think for not having a mechanical fitting to hold the fridge in place.

Yep I don't have that. On a 5th wheel no one is supposed to be riding in it while moving according to federal law anyhow so straps from that viewpoint aren't an issue. Now if it were a motor coach it is a different story. I may do something like that on my own now that I know what is supposed to be back there but I'll still have to strap the doors to keep the freezer closed.

Yea we still have the strap on the doors as well. But i was worrying about the refrig falling over and how to prevent it.

Mind you the refrig still flops with the slideout. But when the slide is in it rest againist that race across the back. But it bumps it im sure going down the road.

Have you had any trouble with it making ice? Mine will make about a half a bin and stop. I have the freezer set to 0 and the fridge set to 36.

Im wondering if something is freezeing up somewhere causing the water not to flow to the ice bucket.

I haven't noticed a problem. The only time it stopped making ice was when someone inadvertently flipped the wire switch to the off position.

I haven't noticed that happening. I'll keep an eye on it next time out and see.

In Montana it is legal to ride in a fifth wheel while in motion. I have never told my kids this though.
