Hydraulic slides...QUESTION

I've seen in other posts where folks said if you only want a certain slide to come out first, hold pressure against the slide that normally comes out first and the next lightest slide would come out first. So, my FW is up for the winter under the shed with the cover over it. I want to open only the passenger side living room slide which normally comes out 2nd after the bedroom slide (I can unzip my cover for this slide to come out). My son (6', 200lbs) tried to hold in the small bedroom slide which normally comes out first. He was not strong enough to hold it in so that the large slide would come out first. Anyone have any pointers?

You should have controls similar to the ones pictured here somewhere. Just close the ones you DON'T want to come out. Be sure to turn the knob ALL the way to the stop.....

My 2010 Sandpiper has no valves. The challenge of having no control valves is what the post I mentioned was about. "How to make a specific slide come out if you have no valves." Thanks for responding though!

Short of locking the mechanical portion of the slide somehow(not sure I would do that), or installing a valve, you would be hard pressed to keep that bedroom slide from opening first. I've tried to hold different slides (4) on mine and they come out when they want, and not much you can do.

I have yet to be able to control slides on the way out, but I can somewhat manipulate slides on the way back in.

Ok, you all confirmed about what I thought after my son could not hold it in. Just for the record, the slides always go and come in the same order, smallest to largest. I'll figure out something.

BTW Dave, we had a great time in Canada in Oakville and then up at Sparrow lake back in July. And we met some great Canadian "lake lovers".

It says the least resistant comes out. Not so. Just smoke and hiney if you get my drift

One suggestion would be to block the slide between the inside of the slide and the interior wall w a 2x4 cut to size. I would be careful though as u want to avoid damaging the hydraulic system. U could try it and if too much pressure builds (you will her the pump working harder than usual) then stop.

I wouldn't try to stop a slide from going out unless it had the valves to open and close for each slide. I have those on mine and it sure is handy. I would call someone as mentioned above who has that particular knowledge.

Can't a simple ball valve be installed in-line for each slide?
John Guest makes fittings that can literally be snapped on almost any type of tubing, including metal.
Cut the tubing and put the valve(s) in-line.
Parker-Hannifin dealers sell EVERYTHING that you may need to do this.

This may or may not work. Yes it is possible, but since all the slides are tied together, and don't have separate lines for each slide, the lines would have to be Tee'd off at the cylinder and install a valve where it could be accessible. It can be done, but it's not as easy as just adding a valve inline, especially for the slides in the middle of the loop.
