Incorrect tank capacity listed in brochure

Its official the tank capacities listed in the Forest River Sandpiper brochure for the 320RL are incorrect. As I said in a prior post (quoted below), during the PDI we were told that the gray water capacity was less that listed in the brochure. We were finally able to get the camper out and I filled the gray till the sink was backing up. Then I measure the amount of discharge and got just short of 60 gallons from the gray (galley) tank.

While we are still a little disappointed by the incorrect info at least now we know for sure what we have. What I do find interesting is that the Forest River web page is still listing the gray water capacity for the 320RL as 108 gallons when they know it is incorrect.

“We picked up our new 2013 320RL yesterday and during the PDI we discovered that the information in the Forest River brochure and on the web site were incorrect for the gray water storage capacity. Listed was 54 black and 108 gray while actual is 54 for both black and gray. The dealer talked to the regional rep who talked to the engineers at Forest River to verify that the information listed was incorrect. This was a very tense time since these capacities were a factor in our final decision for the type of camping we do. The GM for the dealer and Forest River talked several times to come up with a resolution acceptable to us. I think the dealer was caught off guard by all this also and really tried to represent our interest.”

We reached what we felt was fair to us. We were given a portable tank of our choice, they installed a handle inside for the DW and under camper storage bins for us. They also gave us a couple of small items form the camper store. While this may not be suitable to all it worked for us. We really like the features of the camper and it tows great. My mileage did not even drop from our previous 5th wheel which was smaller.

Are you sure you don't have 2 grey tanks?

I'm pretty sure there is only one grey water tank at 54 gallons. But either way one or two the total capacity from the shower and kitchen sink is 54 gallons.

I think my post got moved from the General Discussion to F40 whatever that is? Not sure why.

Mr. Moderator,

The 320RL is not a Toy Hauler. It is a standard 5th wheel. My apologies for originally posting in the incorrect forum.

Hey Jim,
I moved the thread to the 5W-Sandpiper forum.

Same problem with Solera MH

fwiw documented tank capacities in the Solera brochure are also not correct.

How many consumers measure tank capacities when they buy a new unit? Probably not may. Mine was only off 5 gallons, 30 instead of 35. But as a percentage it was a big deal to me. There is no resolution. This is just the way it is

As the regional rep form Forest River said on the phone to our salesman "It is what it is". But that was just the wrong thing to say at the time. After that the dealership manager called Forest River direct to get some answers. In the long run we can live with it.

FWIW, I would be pissed if I was expecting to have 108 gallons of gray water capacity in my fifth wheel and the unit came in with just 60 gallon capacity. The website still shows that 108 gallon capacity.

FR reserves the right to make changes to the specifications without out any notice.

I agree that when the difference is massive that they should update their collateral.

We were shocked really when we first got the news that the information received was incorrect by that much. But in the final decision to get this RV that was only one of the factors. Length, weight, layout and just what was included like second a/c, solid counters, 21' adjustable awning and remote control for slides and landing gear all were considered. In the end we just could not come up with a comparable unit that would make less storage capacity a show stopper.

We just had it out for 8 days and everything worked with no problems other than us learning how to operate a new RV. We have had some type of camper for 33 years and no two have worked the same. Overall we are very pleased. I plan to take it out next week for an annual fishing trip and will be pulling a bass boat behind the RV for the final test.
