Indicator buttons

Anyone able to explain what the deal is on the indicator buttons having the following: switch grey 1 & 2, Black 1&2 Galley 1&2 etc...If I only have one tank for each why is the switch have the ability to be on 1 or 2. I am also assuming it should always be on 1 if you only have 1 tank for each.

It limits the SKUs that the manufacturer must stock thus reducing cost and complexity.

In other words, other models have multiple tanks / configurations so they just use the same panel for all models.
