Painting skylight to reduce heat

I had really had it with the heat that the skylight lets in in our 365. I dealt with it in our 355 too, but the trip a month ago to Myrtle Beach made me furious with the heat in the bathroom. I've seen several mods to block out the light like putting a cover on the inside of the skylight, but it still let in a lot of heat. So I bought some Krylon Fusion Gloss White Paint and cleaned the skylight with Spray Nine and Dawn, taped off the roof and painted it. Several other posts had said that it blacked out the light completely, but I tested this paint on plexiglass first and had good results. I could not believe the heat reduction in the bathroom and camper after doing this. It was amazing. This method still lets in a lot of light, with a very small amount of heat. Here is a pic after it was done.

Interesting. I bet it stopped most of the squirrels from "peeping in", too! Job, glad someone else did it before I tried it. FL seems to have the same heat problem.

After this weeks trip in the Windjammer, I "remembered" I wanted to do something about the skylight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Tempered safety glass

I used tempered GREY tinted safety glass. I removed the thin clear plastic from the overhead in the shower (it will snap right off from the frame). Silicone the safety glass to the white frame. Removes the UV rays, heat and still looks like I can still see the squirrels.

Used the same glass on the entry doors, but with a added tint to prevent anyone from seeing in. Now I can see out but no see in.

cost for each piece of glass was about $14.00.

Good job .
I am too, however, it is an easy fix. Lightly scuff and repaint! Wanted to do this on our other one, just never took the time to do it. So far, I am really impressed with the heat reduction.

This may be to late to post but I used window tint to cover it. It did wrinkle around the edge some but it looked ok and you can remove it if you want later.
