I bought a Sandpiper 360pdek. There isn't any kind of lift assist for the deck closure and it is impossible for 1 person to lift the deck to close. Buyer beware!! I'm going to have to hire someone to fabricate something so I can close this rear deck. Unlike the toy hauler that has a rolling cable closure, this has NOTHING!
Not sure. I'm going to have to have someone take a look and see what kind of options there would be. I do know the deck is really heavy and to tall for me to close it.
I had a toy hauler that had the cables on each side that rolled up and helped lift. Maybe I could find an old set of springs, like you are talking about, and replace what I have. All I know is I'm going to have to find something so I don't have to depend on finding someone to help me raise it up when I want to move. Loved the idea of the patio and can put a doggie door in so the dogs can go in and out. Just disappointed that they didn't make it user friendly!!
I'm not sure if it's a solution but would it be possible to have a garage door specialist install a spring and cable system similar to those used in regular garage doors? Not sure if there's room or structurally feasibility. If you ever tried to open a home garage without the mechanism you would find out how effective they are.
My wife who is 5'4" can close our deck on PDEK with no issues. She has to use a stool to reach the locks though. I would have your dealer check the tension on the springs in the hinge for proper tension. I can open ours with one hand and close it with no issues myself and have two bad knees and a torn L3 disk. Something is not to spec on your deck.
Sounds like maybe mine was just never set right? I contacted the dealer and will have them check it out! I had several things they had to fix when I bought it and I complained about the tailgate but they hadn't come up with a fix yet. Now at least I know what to complain about! Yeah, the latches are plenty high! I'm 5'6" and can barely reach them if I'm on a good flat surface. Thank you.
