Make sure your A/C unit is clean. If there is dirt, grime, or other crud in the heat exchanger/cooling fins, then you quickly lose efficiency. So, pressure wash the unit on the roof when you get a chance and change out any dirty filters, if so equipped.
I was in Moab this year with a 26' trailer and a 13.5K BTU A/C unit. It was in the mid-90s there, zero tree cover, and too windy to leave an awning out unattended. When we'd get back to the trailer at 3-4 PM, it was still 92-96 outside and the surface of the trailer would burn your hand -- so, it was smoking hot in the sun. A/C unit kept is nice 68 inside with all shades drawn and windows closed.
But, our A/C unit is still pretty new and clean. I think that makes a difference.
I had an A/C unit in our PUP and it would only give me about -10 degrees from ambient. When the sun was out, it was basically worthless. I didn't think too much about it, because we didn't use the A/C much, anyway. When I sold it, I pressure washed it. I was shocked by how much dirt and crap came out of the A/C unit. River of mud. The new user probably has a much better experience with the A/C than I ever did!
