Ripped the Roof off my 5th Wheel on the maiden voyage
So I took my new 315BHT out for our first camping trip. Everything was going fine until the trip home. I guess I was not paying attention to the massive height of this new 5er and snagged the top corner on an A&W reader board sign. Ripped the rubber roof from front to back. So, 7K later, I am going to have a brand new roof. Hope someone might learn from my mistakes...........

I sometimes have a nightmare where I get to the beach and its over a hundred degrees and I find out I tore off the AC off on a bridge.

I am sorry hear about that, if you don't mine me asking where is the A&W sign i want to make sure i stay clear of that.
I know how you fell, i have a new 5th wheel and toke delivery on the 28th of December and had to put it in storage until Febuary. We headed to Georgia for our first trip and like you all was ok until we were on the way back home i had to stop in VA to get gas well my power cord to the camper that plugs into the power plug to the truck must have wraped itself around the receiver on my bumper and rip it right our of the 1900 box and broke the wires in 1/2 so here it is late at night with no lights, and no brakes. This cause one of the fuses in my truck to blow and the fuse to the battery in the camper. After a complete check of the electrical system on both the truck and the camper we are back on the road. I did have a plug installed in the inside of my truck bed, with me being new to a 5th wheel this was all new to me, we did TT since 2000 til now.

Hate to hear it, but had to see it....if you know what I mean. Maybe your post will save someone else as it will now be on their mind if they read this topic.
Was the truck with the travel trailer behind you in the picture part of your group?

hanging chains that tell you the height
most all of us
if we have been around rigs for many years
have hit something up top side
yes
mine were a tree taking off my vent
and a Jack in the Box lighting fixture
they had a chain thing hanging down with the height marked
so
I figured the height was the same as their hanging chains
wrong
they were about 3 inches off
and I was
about 3 inches too high !!

this is a big part of why I'm afraid of a 5er. I fear being the one pulling into the gas station like that famous YouTube video shows of the rv at the bank. here is a link for those that haven't seen it.

Sorry to see that .....it is one of my fears. My new fiver is only a few months old and I am nervous about my height. The DW has had to get out a few times when gassing up to make sure we clear. I measured apx 13'6" with the 2nd AC up top. Even on I-75 a few bridge overpasses in Cincinnati are listed at 14'1' and I notice the semis in front of me have very little clearance. Even the overhead utility lines on the fedeal and state highways look low to me now. In the past I never paid them any mind.....thanks for sharing your story as that is a hard pill to swallow. Good luck with the new roof!!
