Second awning?

Me and DW want a sandpiper 5ver and one of the things I want to have done is to have a second awning installed. The question I have is did anyone have one installed? Is it not worth the hassle? Any input on this topic is GREATLY appreciated and needed.

some 5th wheels come with 2. Either both on main wall, or one might be on a slide. But yes, it can be done

How about changing the awning and supports to the old style that were more than just a "Sun Shade" I was told any wind or rain and it wasn't going to be pretty..... GRRRR Almost makes it pointless.

Any comments as to if it would be worth the hassle of a second awning? We already have a canopy but I think a second awning on the RV would come in handy.

Second awning is always worth it, however you should probably find out if an awning can be placed where you want.

We have a new 380bh5 and inquired about have a second awning installed on the living room slide at the factory. The main reason being our 365saq had a 21ft awning and the 380 has a 16 footer. They said it was not an option and they wouldn't do it. Figured I'd see how it goes and I would do it myself if I feel we need it. So far so good.

So you are saying that the awning will hold up to wind and rain as well as the old style awnings?

That looks like my awning on my old unit. Hence my question if the new awnings could be retrofitted to that style in any way. The new one looks like it MAY or MAY NOT handle winds of 10MPH. Our old unit would handle up to about 20 before I was concerned.

Sure !
Make your new electric awning perform like your old manual one.

I'm going to hijack my own thread, this is to all those that have the hydrolic self leveling system. Do you level the unit first or just place a single 2x6 under each tire and let the system do as designed?

I pull in toss 6x6s under the jacks, disconnect and then hit the auto level button. Nothing under the tires at all.

No it has jacks before and aft of the wheels. Chocks with the jacks down in my opinion is redundant.

Interesting thought. I may still carry chocks and wood. We boondock for 9 to 10 days min every year and the grass can get rather soft if it rains alot. The wood under the wheel might be a savior when leaving.

I never use wood under the tires to level he unit first. I just put 2x10x18" or so under the front jacks and 2x8x16" that I put under the self leveling. I find the legs have so much weight for the size of the pad that they sink if you don't put something under it. They definitely sunk in the pavement at my house; since i started putting wood under no more damage.

And as for the wheel chocks I just carry a pair in case of emergency if I had to unpin the camper somewhere very uneven.

I would think that not using wood under the tires would allow the RV to sink into a grass surface faster than if it was sitting on wood all around.
