Slide out awnings

How many of you decided to get slide out awnings for your RVs? We've ordered a 371REBH and need to decide if we want the dealer to install them. They said they could install black ones to better match the exterior of the Sandpiper. They are $489.99 per slide out installed. I'm sure I could save $$ and install them myself. Thanks!

Yes we did and love it! We are getting ready to bug out now but I can post some pics. (I had my dealer install it since it requires drilling into the trailer.)

It does make a little noise when extending so don't let that alarm you.

I got them installed on our 371REBH at the factory. Was a $1450 option for all 4.

In my mind they are a must have.

We made the mistake of not getting one and ended up paying way more a year later.
still was worth it.
Would never buy another RV without them.

We bought for our Catalina 263RLS and love it. As stated in earlier post, had it installed because of drilling into side of trailer and slideout. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Have them on our new Sabre, all three slides, and like them so far. I need to figure out how to tighten the big one. It puddles in rain and dumps off when running the slides in. Still better than puddles on the slide roofs and no more leaves to sweep off!

I didn't get them and instead invested the money in the auto leveling system. From what I researched it seemed the benefits of not having to sweep of some debris once in a while wasn't worth the fact that they can flap in the wind. I only use my camper for several days to weeks vacations. If I were a full timer or had it set up as a seasonal, then I probably would have got them. They also offer shade on the slide outs but for the little area they cover I have two AC units to keep me cool.

We special ordered them on our 4092BFL as they were not on the option sheet. Cost an extra $1485.00 from Manufacturer, surprisingly more than the $1400.00 upgrade for double pane windows.

Ours on our current 2008 Wildwood don't flap in the wind, and it acts as another buffer from raindrops especially if raining at night. We don't get the noise of the raindrops hitting the roof of the slideout over our heads because of the toppers.

We will never go without slideout toppers in the future. It's also nice that nowadays they are black to hide getting dirty, compared to the white ones on our current 2008 which need cleaning once a year.

driving rain in a strong storm can push water past standard seals. slide out covers help immensely here. not to mention the other benefits posted here...

The regional sales rep told the dealer that we could not get them, and the dealer would not do them. Then I emailed FR directly and they said I could pay extra to get them while in production. I don't usually try to override the chain of command, but I thought is was silly since so many other FR models come with slideout toppers.

The two slideout toppers on our 2008 392FKTB (bedroom and dinette/sofa slideouts) totaled only $450.00 as extra options when we ordered it. They have definitely gone up in price over the years.

We order ours from the factory as an option; we also ordered the matching black metal wrap that is offered on the Cedar Creek units to match the awning cover. The only thing I wish we had ordered also was the option side awning with black metal wrap on the curb side slide room.



This is the third 5er we have own and the other two both had slide toppers would not own a trailer without them keeps the roof of the slide dry and clean of debris.

We made the mistake of not getting them for the first two years of owning our 2013 grey wolf 29dsfb. The first year was fine but during the second years winter, water had pushed past the top seals on both slides and did some damage. Went to the dealer and purchased both for $900 and installed them myself. I will now always make sure my future trailers have them.

We got em and had them installed at dealer, just for ease really. They do puddle and I will end up with something to remedy that but otherwise they do what they are suppose to.

Yep! first time ya have to get a ladder to sweep leaves & pine straw/other stuff from your slide before you pull it in OR the first hard rainstorm you are in that leaks through the seals will convince you to have them installed

If this is an issue to you! You can place beach balls or something similar under the Awning and the on top of the slide roof. This will allow drainage of the awning.

To me it is not a big deal; I just do not stand next to the slides as the DW is bring them in. We also make sure that the main entrance door is closed when the dining slide is brought in because the steps are washed every time by the water on top of the awning.

Just tighten the awnings up by take a 3 or 4 more turns in both torsion springs to eliminate the sagging by water.
