Install of MaxxAir Deluxe Fan

I'm trying to install the MaxxAir Deluxe Fan to replace an old vent that has no electrical setup. How and where do I need to get required 12 Volt DC 4 amp power supply? If I tap into a ceiling light, the power will be ultimately controlled by the light switch powering the light (which I don't want). Would it be better for me to take it to an RV specialist and have them create wiring for me? I replaced the bathroom vent with a MaxxAir standard fan with no problem, easy job. I could install the Deluxe Fan, but I'm not good with electrical stuff. Thanks!!!

Have you pulled the trim ring inside the vent yet to look for pre-installed wiring? If you have the wires already there, no worries. If there are no wires then you might check with your local service department for an estimate.

So I couldn't wait until morning. Took down the inside panel and found a white and yellow electrical wire running past the vent. It's connected to one of the ceiling lights and is 12 volts. Can I splice this wire and run both the MaxxAir Deluxe Fan (requires 12 volt DC and 5 amps) and the original light? Which is positive and which is negative?

You can read the + POS & - NEG wires with a volt ohm meter. The voltage is 12 volts DC. You should have a volt ohm meter for your every day use for your camper and home. The can be purchased at Radio shack or Harbor Freight very reasonably.

The red wire on the V/O meter is the +POS , Black is - NEG, simply push the sharp probes into the wires to see which is +POS and which one is - neg. If your reading is -12V, switch the probes until you see on the dig readout just a plain 12V. You can control the light with the switch, the wires should be hot all the time. If you blow a fuse when you turn the fan on you may have to up the amperage of the fuse in order to carry the motor of the fan.

I was looking to connect the fan and light off the same switch as well. If you complete that, let us know how it goes, and if you had to add a higher amp fuse.

Sorry it took so long. Had to wait for a string of good days so the Dicor Sealant could cure. Very easy install. Cut the wires leading to the ceiling light and spliced it with the wires from the MaxxFann. The MaxxFann only uses 5 amps, so I didn't need to add a higher amp fuse. Only issue is that the relay switch to the ceiling lights has to be on the "on" position in order to use the fan...but I can always leave the switch on and manually turn off each light. Great product, I would definitely recommend MaxxAir.

if they are factory installed the run only when the switch is in the on position as well ! well at least all of mine have been . only difference is one switch for lights one for fan .

Our new 5ver has two switches, one controlled the light over the lavatory and the other the overhead light and fan. Had to manually turn the fan on and open the vent, but the oh light had to be on. I rewired the two lights to come on together and left the fan on the other switch by itself. Now when you open the vent, the fan comes on because we will leave the fan switch on the wall in the on position.

On 2 out of 3, lol. When we picked up the trailer, I mistakenly thought there were only 2 vents so I bought 2. When I got on top to install them I discovered there are 3, so I have to go get another one. Been too busy putting gas lift cylinders on the storage doors, adding cross stablizers on the front, central vac, remote control on porch light, extra jacks in front of the front wheels (welded to bolt on brackets to 2x4 tubing in front of axle) and now building a tonneau cover that covers the entire bed while towing the 5ver. Got the front section done and should finish the rear section tomorrow. If it works on it's maiden voyage Mon, will either have it covered or cover it myself with black naugahyde.
