LCD TV's and Winterizing

Are LCD TV's designed to survive cold winter temperatures or are we supposed to pull them for inside (ie. warm) storage..............?

I have never pulled the 2 lcd tv sets from our Lexi, now 4 years old. I do keep it plugged into a 30 amp outlet I installed, 24/7. And I keep a small space heater set at 40 degrees. If your not able to do that, and temp where you are gets real cold for long periods, I'd probably pull them and keep indoors.

We've had Flat Screen TV's in our RV's since 2000 and have never removed them or had an issue leaving them mounted in place during many Iowa winters. Solid State devices are designed and tested to withstand extremely high/low temperatures. They'll be just fine, don't give them a second thought!!!

This is a question that pops up every fall. First couple years I removed it, then was thinking I probably run more risk damaging it by handling it and moving it around. So I stopped removing it, and haven't had any issues... and living North of MN, it's probably pretty safe to say it gets colder here, for a longer period of time, than the vast majority of you will experience.

As some have mentioned in previous years, just don't turn the tv on in cold weather, and you will be fine. I think some remove them more out of a concern for theft, so it depends where you store it I suppose.

Here is what Samsung says and it is probably safe to say correlates to other brands,

"Samsung LCD TVs can operate safely in rooms or areas in which temperatures range from 50° F to 104° F (10° C to 40° C). Temperatures outside the listed range will negatively affect the operation of your LCD TV.

Samsung LCD TVs can be stored unused at temperatures ranging from -4° to 113° Fahrenheit (-20° to 45° Centigrade). Storing your LCD TV at temperatures outside this range can damage your TV."

Note difference in operation and storage. Might suggest that summertime storage without adequate ventilation might also damage the screen by exceeding the 113 degree mark.

Most new rv tvs can be winterized with rv ANTIFREEZE added to the top vents. Make sure it is unplugged before you so this. Only people who have successfully added a jack to their apple phones with a drill should attempt this tip.

I contacted Furrion who makes our tv installed in our 2016 Rockwood 8299 5th wheel. They said that Furrion brands are resistant to extreme temperatures and probably would be ok to leave in our 5th wheel here in the Northeast. They said that if I felt better about taking it out, that would be ok too. So I read that as a MAYBE it would be ok. What do you think?

I worked with repairs for electrical and computer items and was taught to let all components come up to room temp before turning them on. I don't know if today's products are affected with startup when cold or not. But I never had a problem as long as things were at room temp.

They're shipped in cold trucks, or railroad cars, sit on dealers lots all winter, so......

exactly what i submitted in another parallel topic currently running in the forum.

LCD's are good to about 4 degrees F.
for the sake of leaving them in or taking about 20 minutes to haul them - I'd haul mine (now all 4 from my 2 trailers).
means i now have multi TV's in my man cave.

Never have taken my TV's out of my rig (gets down to about minus 25C around these parts) and never will. We winter camp as well so the TV's go from the deep freeze to warm many times over the winter. Zero issues. Much ado about nothing.

Typically, we're down to -30oC (-23oF) and mine has been left in the rig year after year without a problem.
