Roof Weight Baring 2016 Sierra 393rl
Looking for input regarding weight limit on roof. I'm a large fellow, 280, and was concerned about walking on our roof to clean it. Video on You Tube on Sierra construction states it can be walked on. Local service manager says FR recommends not to walk on???? Any input from actual experience would be helpful.

Had a 365saq and I walked on mine all the time. If it has a ladder installed, it's made to walk on, at least that's my take on it.

With your size I think I would do the work from an 8' ladder if possible. @280 you are exerting about 90+ lbs per square foot when standing still on your roof. You AC is at about 18 lbs per square foot as an example. These roofs are not designed for concentrated weight. I do not have experience with your model and my comments are not based on mfg specs or scientific testing just sharing my thoughts. I try to do everything from a ladder when I can. I hope someone can give you a better more exact answer.

Thx for quick response. No ladder installed. However it was listed as option. Some have ladders some don't? Would like to hear from FR?

The Sierra brochure specifically states that you have a 'Full Walk-on Roof', and if you look at a lot of the brochures, they show three guys on a roof doing work. Also there are several threads on the forum where people called FR and were told it's fine to be on the roof to do maintenance, but no partying, etc.. I think you'll be fine.
If you're concerned about it. Just lay a piece of plywood on the roof and walk on that. That's what I do. I have some strips of 3/8" (actually 11/32") plywood just for that.

Thx SeaDog, great input. Guess I need to cut back on my intake. Was trying to avoid the ladder work. What to you folks use to clean your roofs?

I am not a small person either. I had walked on mine...I could "feel" it didn't seem right, so I mostly crawled or sat on mine. I did what others said and did all I could from the ground.

I am 225 and when standing on the roof, and just to be on the safe side, I put down a few 4' X 3' x 1/2" pieces of plywood to dissipate my weight over a larger surface area. Making sure, of course, that the plywood is nice and smooth with no burrs or sharp edges.

I'm 250 and walk on mine, no problems. Just be careful when walking around vents and AC's. Those are normally a bit weaker because of the cut outs.

I never have but I bet you can find some overpriced stuff at the local RV dealer. If it were me, and I'd wait for others to chime in because I haven't tried it, I would use a vinyl siding cleaner from the local big box home repair store.
I'm 180 and walk on my roof without issue. I never felt like it was even remotely close to being overloaded. The plywood is a good suggestion, just be EXTREMELY careful not to rip the roof. I just hit a tree on a less than 1 y/o 5er..... DRUM ROLL $11,000 repair! Thank you Mr. Insurance Man.

And that was just to replace the roofing vinyl. A small tear was all the damage that there was. It wasn't a catastrophic hit where they had to replace decking or siding or anything else.
