Self Closing Bedroom Drawer

Hi all,

I have a slight problem. I cannot get my bedroom dresser drawer to close. It goes in up to a couple inches.

There has got to be a catch or something there, right? I have had no problems with it until earlier today. I did pull the drawer out probably all the way and now I can't get it to close. I have tried to find a catch or something to no avail.

Does anybody know how to close it? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It sounds like when you opened it all the way, it got derailed off the drawer glides. Do you notice it sitting askew in the opening? Try to get it back on track.

Either that or something is stuck behind it.

Are you able to release the side rails and remove the drawer completely?

Look carefully, and you should see some small arms (sometimes plastic) that are spring release from a clip on the metal side rails of the drawer itself....which all has to align with the rails mounted inside the cavity of the drawer.

That's what I was thinking. There may be like a clip/lever on the track that needs to be opened. Recently put a file cabinet together with this set-up.

On the opposite side you need to lift on the small plastic lever. At least on my drawers you do.

I have tried to push it down, I have tried to push it up. I can only hold onto it until it goes into the metal part I can't get into. Here is what it looks like..

Well, I was going to show you a picture, but, I guess I don't know how to upload one here.

Yes, it is sitting askew. There is nothing behind it. Trying to get it back on track.

Our glides were mounted too far apart. Had to space them with a small piece of luan. They were hard to pull to start with and I took them out then couldn't get them back in. Took it back to the dealer and they shimmed them for me.

You have to hit the go advanced tab. Scroll down to the upload pictures section. You can upload up to five pictures. When you have them all there, then hit the upload button and then you scroll to the bottom and hit close this window. I hope I didn’t miss a step, but I think that is how you do it.

Well, I tried to upload pictures but for some reason it would freeze when I hit Upload. Anyway, we did take the drawer totally out, found a metal clip that needed to be reset and now it is closed....never to open again. (only kidding)

Thank you all for your help! I always know when something goes wrong someone here has the answer.

The small black plastic clips (long slender flexible spring type clips) need to be released and the drawer squared up front to back on both sides of the drawer. On one side the plastic clip will need to be pulled up away from the metal rail and on the other side the clip be need to pushed down as it will be mounted on the bracket below the metal rail.

If you have the kind of slides that kenandterry showed in their pictures, it is most likely that the lever goes up on one side and down on the other. Having something blocking a drawer from behind specially the lower one(s) is a bit common.

There may also be something behind the drawer preventing it sliding all the way in. The plastic clips are opposites, one works up, the down. A tip when putting them back in... pull out one rail, slide the drawer on then do the other. When you push the drawer all the way in the clips should engage automatically.

If it is self closing, probably the self closing mechanism broke at the back of one of the slides and is stopping that slide to go all the way in. Had that happen on one of our self closing drawers.

It takes time for the pictures to upload to FRF. Depending on the speed of the connection, the size of the file, and how your uploading, ie cell service, satellite or cable, the time can be considerable. I'm on satellite and have seen upload time as long as 5 minutes. After you click on Upload it looks as though nothing is happening but when it's done the file name will appear in a section lower down.
