mine looks like a normal shower floor pan and drains perfectly. love the larger shower!
A picture or better description would help.

Well that's rather weird. Not very productive to drain off water from the floor pan.
Wonder if you take it apart see how it's installed and if you can modify the drain to be level with the pan.

I took the strainer off the housing is still Above the floor

That was one of the things on our hit list of our unit.
The service department replumbed the drain and took a bit out of the length of the down pipe. It's lower but not flush.

It is installed correctly except it should be in a recess in the floor.
