Considering a new Wildcat 29RKP, would love to hear opinions on this 5er from other owners (or anyone really). Thanks!

I like that floorplan and the drop down patio. That rear kitchen has great storage and counter space when you compare it to other models of similar length. The bedroom appears to have excellent space for hanging clothes. The one thing I didn’t like about the floorplan was the living room slideout blocks off the fridge when it is closed. I could live with that.

Yeah the fact that the slide blocks the fridge isn't a deal breaker for me either. I love pretty much everything about the floor plan, and especially the patio. I'm more concerned with the build quality, the Dexter axles, and liveability in hot and cold climates, as I'm totally unfamiliar with FR and Wildcats.

I think Wildcat is building a pretty decent trailer. I owned two Wildcats before my current Silverback and I think they are a great value for the money…if you can find a dealer willing to deal. Although we did very little true winter camping we did camp in our Wildcats in temperatures in the upper 20’s and were quite comfortable. The insulation R value of 52 in the roof, front cap, and floor in the Wildcat you’re looking at is absolutely outstanding. The weak link in the insulation is in the slideouts but almost all brands are like that. You mentioned hot weather camping so if you’re talking about temps in the upper 90’s then definitely get the second A/C. Just keep in mind that every RV manufacturer turns out a stinker every so often so do a comprehensive PDI before signing the papers.

Hopefully some of the current Wildcat owners will chip in their 2 cents.

Winter camping has it's advantages, the campgrounds are empty, provided they're open.

Thanks for the insight! Yeah that 52 r-value blew me away, but it has to be taken with a grain of salt because we all know it doesn't tell the whole story. 2nd A/C would definitely be added.

LOL......you said a mouthful.

R52? LOL.......To get R52 you need roughly 18" of fiberglass batt or around a 1' thick piece of beaded foam. You are not getting a true R52 from a thin layer of some type of reflective miracle barrier they slap in there somewhere, no matter what they say.

The only place that has an R52 might be the page of the brochure where they blow all that smoke.

[emoji23][emoji23] yep, you got that right! I'd love to know how they came up with that figure. However, if you look at it comparatively, as it relates to other posted R-values, wouldn't you think that maybe it has a better R-value than the average?

No. They're just stretching it further. Not even the best full time 5th wheels have that kind of R value. A DVR Moblie Suites only has R30 in the floor, R25 in the roof and R11 in the walls. FR is grossly overstating their R values. Maybe the uninformed will by into it.

Those numbers make more sense taking into account R-11 is 3-1'2", R25 is 8 -1/2" and R 30 is about 9 - 1/2". That is talking fiberglass batt. I'm not sure how DRV can get 8 1/2" stuffed in a roof, maybe they do have that much room who knows. If you stuff the insul in there, say 8-1/2 into a 4" space your then dropping the R value substantially due to the compression.

They love to throw in the radiant miracle barrier and crow about it, so if anyone wants to believe the horse poopage and that it gives you an R52 believe it Just remember the same people telling you that also tell you how great the non existent Craftsmanship and Quality control are.

Mostly industry generalized although from what I have been seeing lately at campgrounds last year, 3 RV shows since January, and stopping and nosing around at dealers often, my opinion is FR is generally winning the race to the bottom by a long-shot.

well to put it simply without stirring things up --even though the floor plan is great a rear kitchen model is a head ache. Mid kitchen is best.
