Flipping axles?

Hi Everyone,

Once again I come seeking advice. Thanks to everyone who's responded to my earlier requests for info.

Things are starting to come together: I've ordered a 2014(15?) 282RKX, which is supposed to be delivered ~end of April. I've also bought a 2008 Silverado 3500 4x4 to pull it with.

I've read on other forums that with certain truck/trailer combinations that reversing the axles on the trailer helps raise the front of the 5er up a bit to give more clearance between the trailer and the bed rails of the truck.

Has anyone done that with their Wildcat? Or felt that they needed to? Especially those pulling with 350/3500 4x4 trucks? Also, what's the process for doing it? Is it something the dealer can handle, or should I have them contact the factory to do it?

Thanks for your help.
Matt

Flipping the axles is a misused term...it whether the axles tube is mounted to the top or the bottom of the leaf spring. I think you'll find that the camper's axles are already mounted under the leaf spring...something most manufacturers have done considering the higher ride height of late model HD trucks.

I 'flipped' the axles on my '08 Vortex TT toyhauler. I bought the kit from Etrailer, as my springs were beneath the axles. It took me about 6 hours including a lunch break to do it with my dad's help. If your rig is a 5th wheel, several on the RV.net forum have done that by making an additional sub frame and raising it that way. My buddy and I raised his TH 5er by putting in thick walled 2" square tubing under the springs and used longer and stronger U bolts to secure it. It's been that way almost 12k miles now and no problems. Although in theory, a sub frame would probably be safer.
On Edit: Yours is a 5er and will probably be tall enough to haul it with your late model truck.

op How do you think your unit gets to the dealer ?
1 ton Chevys, gmcs, fords, and dodges.
I would worry about it when you need to that is if you need to.

Good luck and congrats on the new unit!

Our Wildcat 2005 RLBS had an extra set of holes on the spring mounting brackets In which I was able to move the spring hardware to the lower holes to give me more lift.

Thanks everyone, sounds like I don't need to worry about it. I appreciate the feedback.

X2 but mine we're in the lower hole already.

Besides that there are, approximately 6 adjustment holes on the pin box as well as the hitch "depending on the hitch"

I tow our 2013 Wildcat 353LS with a F350 FX4 4x4. I have my 5th wheel hitch set on its lowest height setting, the Wildcat shackles are also on the lowest height setting and I have plenty of bed rail clearance as is.
