Generator requirements.

I've used a kipor 3000 watt for about 7 yrs and its ran everything, including the air with no problems.
Now when I tried to use it, it overloaded the generator.
When I got it home I plugged it into shore power on a circuit that had a 20 am breaker. When I turned on the air it seemed to grunt a little and ran. I figured to let it cool the camper down but it tripped the breaker after a bit. So I changed to a 30 amp. It still grunted but took off. I left it running to see if it would trip and it didn't. But when my wife turned on the vacuum it really dragged the air down. Didn't leave it running after that.
Does that sound like a starter on the AC unit is getting bad ? Problems are never ending and I'd rather burn it than sell it to someone and then they have problem. On our trip we purchased a 5000 watt generator and it did the job, but the start up still concerns me. I can't remember what it's supposed to sound like. Any help ?

start cap might be bad and/or run cap going bad on AC unit.

Are you sure nothing else is on? like the electric water heater?

You're on top of things !! Having new capacitors installed soon. Have never used electric hot water, always gas.

Install a hard start kit for A/C.
This gives the A/C an extra kick during startup - $20-30
I have been told you can not run a 15K A/C on a 3K gen.
Turn all electrical devices off including converter, run refrig on propane
Never had a problem.....
