Hinged trash door?

Has anyone put hinges on their countertop trash door. In theory it sound fine, but it seems I always have my hands full when cooking, and no free hand to open the trash door. A hinge where you could leave it open sounds like a good idea. I suppose I could just take it off when cooking...but that's just something else in the way.......any thoughts?

I did, I trimmed the rubber trim flush with the lid and installed a stainless steel piano hinge. Looks pretty nice and it's much easier to open and close with out fumbling the lid all the time.

Well, I decided to go with the piano hinge. I was going to use a barrel hinge instead, but having trouble finding them. Didn't want to drive 40 mi into the big city Lol. I attached a piece of webbing to act as a stop. The whole thing seems a little more user friendly now.
