I am disappointed in the redo of the Extralite models. None of the new models can be towed by an 1/2 ton truck.

None of them? The eXtraLite series ranges in weights from 6,485 lbs. to 8,510 lbs. at the heaviest. While I understand there's frequently debate on these forums about weights, please check the specs and the tow vehicle ratings for more info:

I really like the 322RK with the garden window option. Any models with shorter heights? Everything in the 5th wheels looks like standard 12'4".

The garden windows have been a very popular option. Especially in the 322RK and the Sterling Edition units.

The high point on every Wildcat is the AC unit. Shorter heights may be attained by having your dealer install a low profile AC unit, but we do not supply them from the factory. I'd be interested to see exactly where some of my competitors' heights measure up compared to us -- since I've seen them in person side by side, I'm going to say I'll trust my ruler over theirs.

I'm glad to hear it -- we've shipped quite a few of this model in the last 2 months in preparation for the upcoming spring show season (many with the outside kitchen option as well). I hope you'll get a chance to walk one at a show or dealership near you soon!

by simply Googling "2009 Forest River Cherokee brochure", i found it right at the top.

and remember, Chris works for a different division.
we need to allow him to focus on Wildcat owners and not other brands/divisions.

Thanks, Bikendan. I should have said it was a 2008 instead of 2009. Still haven't found one yet. You would think 09 was close, but it doesn't seem to be. Mine was built in March 08, but is registered as 09. I don't know why Forest River can't archive their brochures.

You're pointing out the dry, towing weight...the issue isn't that...its the pin weight that a 1/2 ton truck can carry. The listed dry pin weights for the eXtralite is 1440 lb and up. You can add another 300 to 400 lbs when loaded, ready to camp.

Outside of the Ford 1/2 ton with the max payload pkge (GVWR 8200 lbs), there isn't a 1/2 ton that can carry a 1800 lb pin weight and not exceed the rear axle weight rating.

I used to tow our Rockwood 8280WS with a Ram 1500, but the loaded pin weight on it is only 1240 lbs...that put me just under the axle weight rating of the truck...that with two of us, a 80 lb dog and full fuel.

Don't see how you (and other manufacturer's) can claim that 5th wheels with this kind of pin weight are 1/2 ton towable.

I appreciate what you're saying (my advice to all potential Wildcat owners has always been "you want more truck than trailer"), but there are indeed new "heavy" half ton trucks (like the Ford you mention) that can handle our fifths. The eXtraLite series includes half-ton towable travel trailers as well. In any case, it's important to match your tow vehicle and trailer appropriately!

Again, it's always best practice to check all weights and specs before pairing a tow vehicle to an RV. Here's some helpful links:

Chris, I agree whole-heartedly in matching the tow vehicle and camper appropriately...that's why I have trouble with the advertising of the eXtralite 5th wheels as 'half ton' towable given their pin weights and that their GVWR is over all truck manufacturers' ratings...Ford has the highest rating at 11,300 lbs.

It's interesting that in the Wildcat brochure on pg 13 where it claims the eXtralite line as 'half ton towable', the picture shows a 293REX being towed by a Silverado 2500HD.

The GVWR is reference to the Wildcat eXtralite campers max weight.
The 11,300 lbs is the maximum towing capacity weight for the F150 with the max tow package.
