Portable black water totes

We are looking into buying a portable black water tote so we can empty out tanks when we do not have sewer connection at the site. Any suggestions? How about storage when in transit?

Had a barker, worked well until we got a bigger trailer with larger tanks. I now have. Thetford one which also works well. I have only used them for grey water but I always try to get one the same size or close to the tanks I am dumping to avoid an overflow situation.. I store it in the truck bed or on the rear bumpers cargo carrier.

Use a 27 gal Therford for gray water only. I cradle it horizontally in one of the brackets used for transporting ladders or lawn chairs on the RV ladder. Fits perfectly. Larger ones may not fit the bracket. Secure it with two ratcheting straps- one horizontal the other vertical. I remove the cap on the portable unit so the sun don t expand the heated air in side. Only take it when planning trips to state parks ect with out sewer connections

I have a 32 gallon tote for grey water only, my black tank can go for a whole week without being emptied. I either carry it on by back rack if I do not have bikes or I carry it on the front, behind the LP tanks over the battery boxes. With the Puma it fit in the front compartment, won't fit in the Surveyor. When you have an SUV you have to be creative.

I carry mine in the bed of my pick up. Very seldom use as only two of us. When I know I'm staying at sites with full hook ups then I leave at home. Later RJD

I have a 32 gallon Barker that I have only used for gray water! Gray water is always near full after two or three day! Black water is well over a week to get full. I carry it in the back of my pick-up and hook it to the hitch ball and pull it to the dump station to empty. then put it back into the truck box.

I have the 32gal Barker that I carry in my front storage bin until I'm camping somewhere that I need it. Then it spends time either under the trailer or in the truck bed. By the way, my 32gal Barker was perfect when I had a TT with 30gal tanks, now I'm in a 5er with 50gal tanks. I have to be careful not to overflow the blue, something I've done once but thankfully it was grey not black that made the mess. I've had my eye on the new big 4 wheel Thetford2.

Get the biggest one your back can handle and you'll be glad with fewer trips. BTW......make sure you take your time to the dump-station when you're doing it. You go too fast and you'll be mad at yourself. Flush it out real well at the dump-station.

Yep, like many others, we NEVER use our tote tank for black water.
ONLY gray water.

so no need for worrying about storage.

It's gray water you'll be using it more for.

Portable black water totes

I'm planning on getting one AND a macerator so that the tote can live in my truck bed. Being in the truck bed, I won't have to drive at 1/2 the pace of a snail to the dump station.

And I'll use it for either.

Ependydad.....I read an article a couple years ago about somebody who had a macerator, and it got jambed up. The rv repair guy found cherry pits in the blade locking it up. He told them not to throw cherry pits in the toilet. The wife sheepishly confessed that she was eating cherries and had no place to spit the pits out,,,,so she swallowed them,,,,,,and the rest is history.

No "toast a turd" here. We only transport grey water. In our 18 gal. carrier. Never have we filled our black tank.

Thanks

I appreciate all the input. Since we have been hitting the state parks we have not had the luxury of sewer connections. I am hesitate to attach to the ladder and do not want to void the warranty by mounting on this bumper (that is another thread of discussion). I think the 4 wheeled tote is the direction we are headed. Thanks to all
