Time to sell our RV
After 10 yrs of stress while pulling this camper down the road I've reached the end. I simply cannot find quality work or material to allow me to keep this thing. Short story for this month. Took the RV to the RV repair shop to have them repacked the wheel bearings and replace the lp gas line. After 400 mile a tire comes off the camper on the West Virginia turnpike. Broke all 6 studs. Called an RV dealer and asked for a service cal to repair it. Nope, didn't want to trave 25 miles. Called a tow company, they said they can fix it. That was at 4 pm yesterday. He came , took the hub and got the wrong studs twice. At 9 pm he told me we were out of luck until 7 am when the RV store opened. I asked why he didn't go there to start with being that the RV was being repaired ! It's now just after 7 am as me and my family still sit atop this mountain in West Virginia and no good luck in sight. Yeah, I'm too old for this stress.

Wow that really is to bad about the tire and having to wait so long, good thing you had the camper to wait in. Everyone has to make that decision at some time as a rule I try not to make important decisions when I'm upset or had to many gin and tonics. Good luck I hope things work out for you

When the hassle and stress outweighs the fun and pleasure of owning/using your RV, it's time to hang it up for sure. Sorry to hear it's arrived for you, good luck!!!

Sorry to hear of your very bad luck. At least you had a nice place to stay. Be thankful you were not traveling by air and had that kind of luck.

When bad stuff like that happens, it just makes the good stuff more appreciated. We don't know what good is unless some bad happens.

Sorry to hear you are finished. I get near that point sometimes. One thing I learned on this latest trip. From now on I will take the rig to a specialist. I needed some wheel work done this time out and instead of a dealer I went to a break shop and they did great work. Because that is ALL they do. I know you have to bring it to the dealer sometimes but if I can avoid I will.

Mine is parked permanently in a campground in Western MA. I'll be back June-October every year as long as I can bring my motorcycle from Florida. Nice summer campground in the Berkshires. I'm lovin' it. When I can't drive it anymore, I'll leave a car here, (neighbor does) and fly into Albany.

I guess it balances itself but I try to be prepared. I do carry a torque wrench with me to check those hubs every so often.
But then this past April coming across northern Arizona we blew a left rear tire on the TT that shredded and tore out all the wiring to the rear of the coach along with the propane lines. No heat, no refidgerater, no hot water.
We survived with a shoebox sized electric heater, limped into Cortez Co & got 4 new tires, then limped into a cooperative Camping World in Colorado Springs to get it rewired.
Not fun and was xpen$ive but that's life!

What hurts in these type of situations is that there is NOT A SOUL in the RV business that gives a quack. No one. Sometimes lip service but that is all. They got your money and that IS all they care about.

To add insult to injury, I was held hostage for $450 for 6 lug bolts and nuts and a packet of grease. And a half hour of labor. They charged 42.50 for the bolts, $60 for the call. The rest because instead of going to N RV dealer for bolts , the guy ran all over West Virginia looking !! So be warned, if you're in West Virginia in the area of Beckly or north, don't call jeffs towing. Very dishonest.

Being a retired mechanic.I would say the main reasons for wheel studs to break is overtightning.overtightning will stress the studs and cause them to break overzelous use of an airwrench is the most common way.nuts should be buzzed to snug then tightned with a torque wrench. Getting quality service seems to be a real problem with RVs

Just had new tires installed and asked what the wheels were torqued to. Answer was 65#. Told them to go back and make it 120. Drove home and checked after 10 miles. Just put 88 more miles on and will check again before the next trip and every trip along with air pressure. Anal? Maybe.

I blame cell phones for this kind of mistake in the service department.
I have a shop myself and when working on anything at all, nothing can remove your mind from the task at hand like a phone call. When I hang up the phone, I say out loud. Now where was I?
Double check the lugs for sure after a few miles.
Even a visual check might spot a problem in time.
Im 62 and know how the skills and savvy are going away also.

I'm so snake bit I even checked them after it didn't move all night ! Lol

And now for relaxation I'm sitting under the hitch of my camper having coffee and watching it rain. The race track told us to pull in our awnings and tie down loose items. Supposed to get up to 7". So a long story short, we had a bad trip to drive down to South Carolina to greet a hurricane ?
I'm thinking I won't be buying any lottery tickets soon. Lol
