I think it is illegal to include the tongue in advertised length. You can add at least 4 foot extra for the tongue on an average trailer, a few have a 6 foot tongue length. Some brochures will give overall length.
I think this is at least "mostly" true. Our Surveyor 235 has a box 23.5 ft long and an overall length of 25.5 ft.
