Air conditioner makes crackling sound and trips breaker

I wonder if anyone has had this problem. In the evenings, after our rooftop air conditioner has been running for some time, it starts to make a kind of crackling sound, makes the lights dim and ends up tripping its own breaker and sometimes the power inverter. I had it checked out, and the RV dealer told me he found a couple of wires that might have been arcing. He fixed those, but it's still acting up. I also have started turning off the unit in case it's freezing, but this is only a temporary fix. I'm afraid the thing could catch on fire some day when we're out roaming around. The only thing I can think of is that at night, with a lot of lights on, the power inverter runs constantly, trying to recharge the battery and maybe drops the voltage on the AC. It doesn't seem to do it as much in the daytime. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
