Do I want the weight.
When you load up and your traveling to a predetermined destination do you go dry and get water on arrival ?
Knowing that you can get it there.

If I know I can get it where I am going, I go dry and hook up there. If I am going somewhere where I know the water is bad (My Dad has a well in AL and the water really smells) I have filled my water tank with water from the closest Flying J before I pulled into his place. I'd rather not have the weight if I don't need to tow it.

My tow vehicle could handle the extra weight but I leave the tank empty if I know I have access where I'm going.
I will put some water in the fresh water tank if I plan on a little boondocking between campsite destinations while traveling for little things like toilet flushing, washing hands/dishes, etc..

Water heater is full and carry about 5 gal in the fw tank to flush the commode and wash our hands while on the road.

That's good info. If you don't know the source. Just a little for trip.
When I was tenting I always hauled my own water and used what was there for dishes ect.

I carry between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank of fresh water. I've been in multiple situations where the site I arrived at unexpectedly didn't have water or the campground lost their water or I just didn't feel like hooking it up right away.
Like OldCoot, I travel with my water heater full (as I rarely empty it between trips unless we won't be traveling for a couple of weeks).

No no no Dodges can't pull water, that would look to bizarre .
We travel with very little water in the tank but always carry our inflatable water tank (empty of course) which can hold 45 gal., just in case.
