Rusty just wanted to chime in here. From what I heared and it was posted on the internet, and maybe this site as well, was a RV tech who had a copy of the Dometic service bulletin issued early last year or late 2015.The bullentin state's what the tech was to do in determining replacement of A/C unit.If it fails any part of the test it is to be replaced. It seems that the factory in China has had in the past not saying now,but contamination inside the tubes during the assembly of the tubes. So extending the warrenty on a/c units might be a good idea,as to is it just a matter of time before the other unit fails. One thing is that Dometic gives you a reset on the warrenty meaning 2 years from installation.

Never heard that. I was it is 2 years from date of purchase no matter how many times it has been replaced. I had my 2nd replacement last May and my 2 years is up June 18th.

You may want to contact Dometic directly.

I posted this on another thread. Our new Brookstone was in for AC they replaced a circuit board and still the compressers didn't come on. I called Joe Schunerman the Coachmen National Service Rep, turns out several units have two wires connected incorrectly from the factory (affected both ACs). With that said the thermostat is in a horrible place. Being in the hall across from the entrance means it will never read the LR temp correctly. Also the temp sensor in the bedroom had a kinked wire so it wouldn't read correctly. Crossing my fingers all is good now.

We have a 2017 241qbxl that the ac just went out on last week. Out in several calls to the dealership service dept (Funtown RV) with no response so far. I would not recommend buying from Funtown....

My 3 year old (this week) 353flfb is now officially waiting for it's 3rd 15,000 btu a/c unit.
I have found you can definitely skip a bad dealer and contact a Dometic mobile repair shop in your area. Dometic has a 2 year warranty, hopefully from the date the last new unit was installed, which could end up being a lifetime warranty at the rate I'm going.
I have owned hundreds of vehicles, houses and other mechanical devices and NONE have been as unreliable as the poor excuse of an A/C unit.

I have had mine 2 years and it is on its third main av unit. The front unit has not missed a beat. The last time it went I called the dealer while I was gone and made an appointment because we had only 5 days between trips. I dropped it off on Tuesday evening and they had the unit replaced and ready to pick up by noon on Wednesday. There are some good dealers out there you just have to find them.

Any chance you'll share a good contact name and number. My two month old 5er has had one service call already and need to call dealer Monday for another. AC not working correctly again.

The A/C (15K) on my 2014 Salem stopped cooling and started icing up earlier this year. When I opened it up, I found no fill port, of course. Dometic apparently designs them to be throw away units. So, I brazed on a piercing fitting on the low side and charged it up (I don't trust the saddle clamps). Happy campers again. Then a few months later we traded it. I'm sure that in a couple of years we'll have problems with the A/Cs on the new camper. It is disappointing to expect more, but receive less, sometimes much less. But even with their quality issues, FR still delivers some of the best bang for the buck. So I keep coming back, this time with a little higher end unit.

Our Dometic ac failed after 5 months. Evidently, the dealer slipped and said it appears they got a run of bad units. Scheduled 7/28 repair (which = replacing)

I noticed this past Sunday that my basement storage was cool and discovered that AC air from the coach is sinking into to this area through the cold air return grill built into the steps. I removed the grills (3) and covered the back of each one with a sheet of 1/4 " black neoprene. The 5er seemed to stay cooler for the rest of the day will report back after this weekend. Of course I'll have to remember to remove before using furnace.

The 13,500 unit I installed in Feb 2017 has quit. I contacted Dometic, lets see how they respond.

Only reason to add port is to charge.
If unit needs charging you have a leak.
So why????

Follow up. They did end up replacing the unit, I worked with a shop over the phone to diagnose. He agreed the unit was bad, ordered it from Dometic. I took mine off, took it to the shop for an exchange and installed it. That was i n the spring. Lets see how it does next spring.
The 15K Dometic that came with the camper is not working properly, out of warranty. I am looking at replacing it with a Coleman.

Just for the record, my old camper 17BH had a Dometic and never had a problem for 4 years.
However, my new 287BHDS 15K BTU unit only lasted 4 months. I've read that the 15K's have a large failure rate.
Before I took it in to the dealer, I made sure they would have one in stock if it had to be replaced. The took care of me in about two hours, in and out with a new unit.
Now I have an additional 2 years on this one, which I will probably need!

Nope. Ports are also used with pressure gages to diagnose problems in the Low and High sides of the system.
