Dometic thermostat

Question about the dometic thermostat.

During our pre-buy, the tech said to run the fan on auto. He said leaving it on low or high could cause the heat and AC to run simultaneously.

My question is, if I want to leave the fan running continuously on low for background noise, how do I set the AC temp/furnace temp to avoid running both or is this not an option? Our tech basically said to leave the fan on auto. I'd hate to have both running at the same time.

We just run ours on auto....if you leave it on high or low the fan stays on continuously I prefer it to shut off once it reaches the correct temperature.

I think it depends what thermostat you have, there are different models. There is a you tube video if you google Dometic RV Thermostats where a service guy describes exactly what you are saying...we had a thermostat like the one described in the video in our previous trailer and hated it. Current trailer had a different one but we even replaced that one with a digital one that is much more accurate and keeps the temp more constant.

You can just run your fan without heat or air coming on.

No, the tech knew what he was talking about. The heat and AC running at the same time is a pretty common problem asked about on here.

Assuming the OP is just running the fan only, yes you can set it to high or low. But if you have the AC or heat running, the fan should be set to auto.

This may help as well.

This is partially correct.
In heat mode, if fan is on hi or low, the AC fan (fan only not compressor) runs to improve circulation.
In AC mode, if fan is on hi or low, the AC fan runs continually and compressor turns on and off as needed. The furnace fan does not run.

Dometic thermostat

Yes I know that [emoji12] however you can just run the fan with no heat or a/c ✌️which was my point and I think the op's question.

Sounds like a right answer/wrong question kind of thing.

Thanks for the responses. Trial and error I suppose.

Not a big fan of the thermostat. Could be a little more intuitive.

My thermostat has a furnace, a/c and separate fan mod. The fan is set to low, high or auto before selecting the operation mode.

Just change the thermostat out.

Many of the factory ones have a large swing in temp variance from when they cycle on and off. We got a new thermostat that has a 1 degree variance so the temp is much more constant.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I'll look into upgrading.

I stuck with the Coleman/Mach RV brand, but went from an anolog one to a digital one that had the 1 degree variance. Some have used the household ones from Home Depot or Lowe's. Mine was a simple wire for wire exchange and fit exactly as the factory one did...check out Amazon for the Coleman/Mach, that was the best price I found by a long shot.

The Dometic is programmable, 1 degree or 2. Default from factory is 2 degrees.

I find that due to the small area and marginal insulation in RVs that 1 degree is too small and causes the AC to cycle to frequently.

I suppose that is the reason the default is 2 degrees. I've left mine on the default.
