Unhappy Freezer works, Fridge doesn't

I have a new 2015 Wildwood Heritage Glen 356 QBQ with a Dometic refrigerator, runs dual electric (12V) and propane.

I plugged it up today and checked the refrigerator. The top freezer gets cold no problem. The bottom has fins in the back and a white cable I assume is a thermostat probe that attaches to the fins. On the side of the fridge wall inside is a blue arrow next to the fins that points up for colder. I assume that means slide the probe up higher on the fins to get more cold.

The trouble is that the bottom refrigerator section does not get cold, but the top does.

Any ideas on what could be wrong? Are there two systems in this fridge? I checked the fuse, and it is fine. My "little problem" is that it is out of warranty on the trailer because I bought it slightly used, and unless someone can tell me whether the refrigerator has a separate warranty apart from the coach itself I think I am sunk.

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most appliances have their own warranty with the manufacturer. Looking at mine, some are as long as three years.

Post the name and model # of your fridge and we can look at our documents and see if we have the same and can give you more information. (Website, customer support phone number, warranty info, etc.)

What is the temp of the fridge? I bought one of the clip on thermometers found here.http:// http://www.campingworld.com/...rmometer/69819
You can also get a fridge fan to circulate the air like this. Search - fridge fan - Camping World

if you just turned it on today, won't be cold till tomorrow most likely. The freezer gets cold much quicker.

David,
Really?? That's odd. I will leave it on all night and report back on that issue. Seems kind of weird it would take that long. Why would that be?

Rick and Karen,

I do hope the refrigerator has a separate warranty. That would be awesome. Are you sure about that? If so, I will call the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks.

takes awhile, and even longer when empty. It doesn't circulate air so it doesn't cool the air. Be patient, it's just how they are. Need to be turned on a day ahead of loading them

You are gonna have to try a little harder than that moodman, we are trying to help. Get a thermometer and report how far from safe (40 degrees) you are.
crunchman

Edit: I did not catch you did not let it run 24 hours. You still will want to get a thermometer to monitor the temps.

I don't think you understand how RV absorption fridges work, compared to residential fridges.
It's always advised to let your fridge cool overnight.
And the freezer cools before the fridge part, because it's smaller.

put some cans of soda or bottles of water in there so it has something to make cold. Any fridge is more efficient when full, and that is more true of absorption RV fridges.

Just an FYI, your refrigerator will get colder sooner if it is operating on propane instead of electricity. Even so, it will still take a good 16 hours to get down to temp.

Ours goes from off to "pretty cold" in 4-6 hours. That is almost always
on LP mode 'cause I'm too lazy to run a cord out there for just one day!

We had the same problem a few weeks back and called a repair service to come out and look at the fridge. He told us that the fridge runs more efficiently and colder on propane. You will hear a click when it turns on. Do not put it on auto. Also put a small level in the fridge and level the trailer by that. Make sure the vent outside has no obstructions, dirt and debri where the board is...take an air hose and gently blow out everything. By putting it on propane you are bypassing the electrical board that may be damaged. If that does not work then you may have no choice but to replace the fridge. It only took about 2 hours for our fridge to get cold and it stayed cold the whole trip, and the freezer stayed nice and chilly.

I have a new Dometic with thing that slides up the fin on the right side of the fridge. I agree with all who said that you should let the fridge run over night before you make a judgement that the lower fridge as opposed to the freezer does not work. Lately I have been running a battery operated fan that I put on the bottom of the fridge and aim the fan upwards. It does seem to cool the fridge more rapidly.

If your freezer is working then so is the fridge.
Takes time.
Untill then read up.

Lots of good advice here.....just one more tip; put everything in your home fridge that you intend to take with you in your RV fridge. It takes even longer to get your RV fridge cool if you load it up with warm stuff!

I have thermometers in mine and in 6 hrs. the freezer shows 12 degrees and the refer is at 40 degrees it is still empty. When I put it on it showed 78 degrees. My control is set at #1 the lowest it can go. 1 is highest I can set it without shutting it off. If I put it to 5 the coldest, I go to minus in the freezer and below freezing in the refer part. But mine is a Norcole. I have also added 3 fans, 1 inside against the coils and 2 behind. It came with only 1 fan at the condenser coil in back. The cooler you keep the rear where the ammonia system is located the colder and faster your unit will cool down. And not have to stay on as long. And it is 87 degrees here today. On Dometic make sure you have good contact on the coil. If you have to pull it apart and clean the channel and reinstall on a different fin in the refer.

Check all the little crooks, crannies, vents, etc. for any obstructions, plastic or paper that can block the airflow. Its usually the simple things...
