Hot & Cold water issues - switches

We just bought a brand new Wildwood X Lite 282qbxl in September 2015.

We have had a few issues that I need help in correcting.

1. HotCold water. When I use water from the tank, the hot and cold from the sink and shower work properly, but when I hook up the city water to the back of the trailer, the hot/cold get switched. Hot water comes out when I turn the cold handle and vice versus.....any thoughts on what might be the issue?

The city water inlet is connected to the hot water system piping? Do you get hot water at toilet also?

The only possibility I could think of is if the OP was somewhere where the weather was VERY warm and the city water hose (and possibly the pedestal hook-up) was in direct contact with the sun for a long period of time and when the cold faucet was opened it would draw that very warm water into the RV and out the faucet. Of course it wouldn't last all that long and in reality hot should come out the hot side as well, not cold so I'm stumped.

Even if the CW supply was somehow plumbed into the hot water side of the plumbing I can't imagine how it would reverse the flow at EVERY faucet?

If something was amiss with the WH bypass valves it wouldn't work correctly with the pump.

Being as how shore water and pump water are connected in parallel (at least their supposed to be) this situation just doesn't make sense.

If the city water inlet was connected to the hot water side of the plumbing it would do exactly as he described. It would reverse flow through the water heater and hot water would flow out through the cold water lines everywhere in the unit. Also cold water would flow out the hot water lines.

Yes. Most likely a Suburban heater which typically do not have a check valve, unless one is installed by the RV manufacturer. An Atwood has a check valve on the outlet side of the heater that comes from Atwood as part of the heater.

That's how an Atwood can use a bypass kit with 1- 3 way valve (on the heater inlet side of the cross connection), but a suburban needs 2 -3 way valves (one at each the inlet and outlet side tie ins of the cross connection).

Yep, I can see where Bama and Havercamp are correct.
I forgot some water heaters do not have the check valve in the hot outlet.

Look for the city water supply and see if it is plumbed into the hot side of the plumbing.

Wow - this forum is amazing! This is my 1st travel trailer, so I am speechless as to all the help and suggestion.

Couple of replies....

1. Yes, when connected to the city water, hot water flow thru the toilet, as well as every cold water side. (It is crazy).

The trailer has the blue/red pex, flex piping, so I was able to determine that it was in fact switched when on city water.

You have two options.
1) Disconnect the city water inlet from the hot water piping and connect it to the cold water piping or,
2) Take it to the dealer and have them do it.

If your dealer is like most, you'll get it done much faster doing it yourself than having them do it.

Do it yourself. What you save by not towing it to the dealer will just about pay for a decent set of pex tools, which is nice to have around if you own a camper.
