Landing Gear Switch

Shortly after I bought my 2015 FR Wildwood Heritage Glen 356 QBQ (Its a 42.5' long bunkhouse 5th wheel), the outside toggle switch that controls the landing gear stopped working. So, my Plan B was to use the remote control for the landing gear, and it works fine. But that's not my first choice. I like to control it with a manual switch.

So, I recently had time to diagnose it, and disconnected the switch and tested it with a continuity meter. It checked out fine. Also, there is not 12V at the switch.

So now I am scratching my head trying to figure out how the wiring works in this 5er. When using the remote, I can hear a relay clicking behind the wall in the basement, and that activates the motor. I then went to the battery compartment and discovered a 2 amp fuse had blown. I replaced it, and the new fuse blew too. Not sure however if that is related to the landing gear or is some other issue. The fuse is an inline type in a red rubber cap (I assume this is to protect it from weather.)

Anyway, does anyone have some ideas on where to diagnose this issue? A wiring diagram would help a lot, but I don't have one. The 12V system is somewhat mysterious to me, and especially as the remote activates the landing gear, but not the switch.

Any electrical sleuths out there?

Whatever that fuze is for, it sounds like there is a dead short in the wire. Follow the wire, away from the battery, and look for some place where the insulation is chafed, or the wire is pinched.
Find that, and you will likely find the problem.
To further troubleshoot the fuze use, ask this question. Is there any 12v item not working other than the landing gear? (While using the switch). If all of the other 12v stuff works, then the fuse is most likely feeding the manual switch for the landing gear.
The manufacturer should be able to provide at least a rudimentary wiring schematic. Those assemblers surely aren't just hooking up wires and cables "Willy nilly".

The remote and manual switch uses separate power sources, so having it work when the manual switch won't, is normal.

Does the 2amp fuse blow as soon as you insert it or do you have to do something before it blows.

Trace the wiring from the switch toward the battery. There should be a fuse inline somewhere. Ours is hidden the wire loom behind the battery. It should be a 30 or 40 amp fuse.

I think it blows as soon as I plug it in. Not sure.

Are you saying that there is yet another fuse besides this one?

If it's a 2 amp fuse then it's not for the landing gear. The landing gear draws a lot more current than that. So given that, yes, there's another fuse.

Unless perhaps the wrong fuse got put into the landing gear circuit somehow.

The landing gear fuse on my Wildcat is 30amp.

Did you find the fuse yet? If not, it is indeed a 30A fuse and it is located in the front storage bay, in a wire harness loom at top front of bay, you will see where harness attaches to switch on left front and crosses over to right side, middle area there should be a fuse holder. That fuse will pop if you drive landing gear til it hits the stops but as you found out you can still use remote.

Not too familiar with those systems, but could there be relays that's do switch between the toggle switch and remote control and the 2amp fuse be part of the relays ?

Thanks for getting back to me. THat was thoughtful.

However, I traded in that camper and bought another (a Montana 362rd) Camping World bought the old one. The funny thing about the landing gear was that it would operate with the remote, just not with the switch.

Of course, I shall never know if the fuse you mentioned would have made a difference. But I do hope whoever buys it might come on here and find your note. Who knows??
