Mounting spare tire on rear

Can anyone explain the mounting position of the spare tire on the rear spare tire bracket. I removed the spare awhile ago and didn't take note of position of the bracket bolts thru the lug holes on the rim. The 2 bracket bolts don't line up with any 2 lug bolt holes on the rim. Crazy eh? or maybe I am missing the obvious? Maybe the mounting bolts don't go thru 2 lug holes on the rim? Maybe I should be using one lug hole and the center hole on the rim? If you have a picture that would help.
Thanks

Yes you use the center hole and one lug hole. There should be a small rectangular piece that takes up the extra space in the center hole.

this helped me once...

Depends on the style of spare tire rack, I suppose, but here is a photo the service manager at my dealer once sent me when I had the tires off my Windjammer and was stumped trying to return the spare to the bumper rack.

Excellent! Thanks guys. That's what I figured after I got back in the house. It was a long day and it the last thing I was doing and my back started to complain loudly. I give this a try.
Thanks

Excellent picture! I had the same problem in the past. I finally figured it out because there simply wasn't any other way--but this really illustrates it well!
