New WILDWOOD Owner

Hi folks.. I have been wandering around the Forest River forms for some time now,.. first came looking for information about the Rockwood and Flagstaff A-Frame popups. While shopping the local area, craigslist, dealers, etc for a camper.. I found a 2010 WILDWOOD 22RB about 30 miles from home. Long story short.. I now own it.

Anyway.. It isn't everything I wanted in a camper.. but, for what I paid.. I am very happy! I camped in a small JAYCO TT (197) for a couple of years.. but sold it in early 2011.

What I Like about the new2me WILDWOOD:
front queen island bed (had corner bed before, hated it)
full length closets (I like hanging my shirts)
two door fridge/freezer
stand up shower and bigger bathroom
sink in bathroom
real skylight over shower (plus fantastic fan over toilet)
tandem axle
tankless hot water heater

Would rather have smooth sides (fiber glass) .. but we'll see how the aluminum works out.

anybody else own a 22RB? Any thought, opinions or advice welcome.

Good luck and have fun with your Wildwood. We had 30fkss for about 6 years and 22,000 miles, we really enjoyed. We just traded it for a new 2010 LaCrosse 303rks.

Again have fun and tell us about your adventures with your trailer.

You have a 22RB? What do you tow with?

It's a 22rbx and is towed with a Chevy 1/2 ton with a 5.3 v8.

Tell me about the tankless water heater. I thought those were super pricey and somewhat less functional in a camper than in a home. (something about using up your fresh water faster???)

I'd really like to have an option for more hot water in our TT.

Let me say.. this is my first experience with the tankless HWH.. I bought the TT used.. and it was already installed. My research shows they cost, mostly.. between $500 - $700 (installed). I have only had the camper a week, so I haven't used it on a camping trip yet. After reading the user manual and comments found on the internet.. I have come to these conclusions.

As far as using up your fresh water.. that isn't a concern for me. I have never camped where there wasn't city water available. But if I did, I would just be conservative with the water.. like we all are when using a conventional HWH with a 6 or 10 gallon tank.

The only concern I would have, while hooked up to city water.. is filling up the gray water tank faster because I have endless hot water available.. and might be inclined to take a longer shower. But.. I mostly camp by myself, 2 or 3 days at a time.. so that probably wont be a problem. And.. if I'm camping in a commercial CG, with sewer hookups.. its really easy to dump the full tank.

The advantages I see...
Only burning propane when I turn on the hot water (not to keep 6 gallons hot all the time).
Endless supply of hot water (when hooked to city water)
No need to drain a "tank".. or be concerned about build up in the tank.
No need to bypass HWH when winterizing.

With all that being said.. I am not sure I would spend the $$ to put a tankless unit in.. I was ok with the 6 gallon HWH on my previous camper. But,.. since the tankless HWH is already there.. I think I am gonna like it.

I am new to travel trailers and we just purchased a new 2014 wildwood x-lite. 29' long/ 4380lbs. Dry weight. We have a 2011 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crew cab. Has anyone had success or troubles with this combination?

You're truck is rated to tow 6100 lbs.. So with the dry weight at 4400 lbs .. Add 1000 for all your stuff and you are within 700 lbs of max tow. Just my two cents.. I think your truck will pull it OK.. But you are going to have a white knuckle experience with that much weight and a 29 foot camper.

I pulled my 3800 pound, 23 foot camper with the same truck. It did the job.. But I traded up to a 2013 Ford F150 and now enjoy a much more comfortable towing experience.

Thank you

Thank you for the response. I certainly did white knuckle the drive home today. Have had the Frontier only 7 months, so trading up might be costly. We just have to operate with caution and wisdom. Thanks

Very nice... I love the floor plan.. Especially the sofa. The front queen bed, kitchen and dinette looks pretty much like my 2010 22rbxl. I don't have the sofa or the bunks.

When these pics were taken.(click on 2012 new camper). I still had my Nissan frontier.. Chuck's Camping Adventures
