Now It's On To Tire Problem

Just putting some air in my Castle Rock tires that are only 2 1/2 years old according to the man. date. They are really starting to dry rot bad. Almost scared to go camping this weekend. Just bought the TT 2 weeks ago so just running into some issues. Is the Endurance tire any good for TT? Have heard alot about them.

Are you saying the tires went bad (dry rotted) in two weeks? That does sound strange.

Absolutely Goodyear Endurance are good tires. Replaced my Castle Rocks when I bought my 2015 Shamrock last year. Have towed approx. 7000 miles since, trouble free. I have read good reports on these tires.

Would you get the ST or LT Endurance?

Endurance is only made as an ST (Special Trailer). It is not a Light Truck tire.

Goodyear Endurance

For what it is worth I bought a 2019 Cherokee Grey Wolf MKSE which had Castle Rocks. Read reviews and did two short trips and replaced with Goodyear Endurance. I know have peace of mind while going down the road.

There are now a gazillion threads on the Castle Rock tires and what to replace them with.

Do a forum search for days worth of reading.

New tires

After 4 years, 5 blowouts, over $13,000 spent on new tires and damages, I just put on new Endurance tires based on FR members discussions. The tire is considerably heavier than any of the trailer tires I've previously had. I believe it has a rating of something like 12 ply equivalent. I've yet to take them on the road. I also went from 205 75's to 275 75's. Cost for 4 plus spare was about $900. That's my story!

After a blowout with china bomb tires I replaced 6 tires with endurance also bought monitoring system for fifth wheel and pickup tires it monitors 10 tires with temperature and pressure feel lot more safe now.....buy Endurance from Manufacturer online and they will ship to your closest Good Year dealer of your choice and price is better than buying from dealer you will also be able to have appointment for installation online and all prices are guarantee I found this is best way to proceed and dealer cannot surcharge

My Maxxis were made in July of 2015 and have been on my 5er since August of 2016 and still look new after 22,000 miles. No checking or drying that I can see. I keep them covered when the 5er is parked at home and on stays in the wild of more than a few days.

I was disappointed that they arrived a year old from an Amazon seller (price was right though) but they are holding up well. The Endurance was not yet available when I got the Maxxis and the Maxxis was getting a lot of accolades in the forums. I'd go for the Endurance or Maxxis if they are easily sourced and have an acceptable date code .. maybe 6 months or less.

BTW, I went up one load range and added 5 psi to take advantage of that as my originals had less than 10% margin. Note that running a higher load range tire with the same pressure as the replaced tire does not result in a higher load margin.

Get Goodyear to do a mobile install. Tires will be recent date codes, and a truck comes to your house or storage facility and swaps and balances them without all the hassle of taking your rig to a shop with a tiny parking area ect. Saves you a lot of hassle and doesn't cost any more than if you bring the trailer to Goodyear or another shop. If your RV is on dirt or gravel, make sure to provide them something to put a jack onto.

Tires, I have been reading all I can about what tire is better and all I have done so far is to confuse myself (which is not hard to do). I want the Goodyear Endurance tires but the wheels I have, have a max pressure of 65 psi (D load rating), the Goodyear tires have a max pressure of 80 psi (E load rating). Now I read that 80 is the max on the E tire, weigh the trailer and use the air pressure chart to determine the needed psi, if you need only 60 psi in the E rated tire would that cause it to run hot?? I would like to replace the wheels and tires but I cant. ST225/75R15D - My thinking is get the Maxxis but will read on..

Mike. Don’t run those dry rot tires anywhere. Not worth the risk of causing a lot of damage if one blows. Goodyear Endurance Are good tires. I just put 5 on my TT before our 6400 mile trip to Canada this past August and they were flawless.

Got the GY Endurance ST215 R75 14 inch. Got them balanced also. Manufacture date is Sept. 2019 so they are fresh. Drove home about 20 miles and what a difference. Camping next week about 120 miles from home so we'll see. Thanks, Mike
