Picking up new 2014 31BKIS - hope I made the right decision!

Picking up on Friday. The price was too good to pass up. Brand new unit. Love the layout.

I read thru the pickup document but anyone have anything to add particular to this model?

Switching from a class A to this! Now I need to find a truck to tow it with. Also would love any suggestions on that.

Very nice.
New smells wonderful.
Congrats and enjoy.

P.S. I'm pretty new so I don't know much.
But I'm learning. Lots of good help here shortly, I'm sure.

Congrats on new unit. For vehicle I think you should go with a 3/4 ton (gas or diesel) with a class V hitch receiver and a good weight distribution hitch, I would recommend a ProPride 3P with 1400 lbs bars.

Picking up new 2014 31BKIS - hope i made the right decision!

I love our 2014 31BKIS. It's a Salem, so looks a little different than the Wildwood, but same floor plan.
The outdoor kitchen and bunk room (yes it's actually a whole room folks) are the biggest pluses for me. The power everything is really nice also.... The remote makes it easy to watch the slideouts from outside while operating them. That's the "showstopper package", not sure if all 2014's had that.

The only negatives so far have been that with all that extra kitchen/living room space the bedroom feels a little cramped when you are 6'5" and sleep on the far side of the bed.
I also don't like the two sewer outlets. I have to have three hoses and a T, which takes up space and all three of them won't fit in the bumper.

Last year it was all new to us, and we had a blast, but found things we wanted to update. So this year we have pulled out the Jack Knife Sofa and the Booth. I'm happy to report it was very easy with just a few screws.... And the entire slideout is carpeted underneath so our free standing chairs and new sofa with cup holders and duel recliners fit perfectly.
I have opted to leave the existing table for now since it fits so well.

I was a little surprised at how flimsy all the construction was as I dismantled things... But have realized that it's pretty standard in the industry for them to cut corners where they can.

We lost some beds that way, but can still sleep 6 or even 8 in the recliners. It really improved the comfort level though. I'm a heavy dude.

My tow vehicle is a 2004 Ford F-250 crew cab. It's the V10, not diesel.
I avg 9mpg when pulling the TT and 12-14 the rest of the time. I do have a programmed tuner that I got from 5 star tunes. The towing tune seems to draw out the shift points and let's me cruise around 60-65 avg on the Missouri hills where I live.

Thanks

thanks for the great feedback. Luckily neither my wife nor myself clears 5'5" so the bedroom should be good for us.

I have the 286RLT 5th wheel. I pull it with a ford f250 diesel and love it. 12 mpg at 65 mph.

My tow vehicle is a F25O turbo-diesel super crew. Be sure to check payload limit looking at comparable trucks like a Ram 2500 with a fifth wheel pin in the bed. You have an exhaust brake with the diesel also, just sayin.

Congrats on the new purchase. Our family picked up a 2015 BKIS on April 1st and have already used it for 5 nights and looking forward to many more. My family LOVES it. Kids enjoying having their own bunk room that has enough room for their cousins. Only thing that is missing is an outdoor shower.

Look on line and find a PDI checklist on line. When you go to pick it up make dealer go through checklist with you. DO NOT DEPEND ON DEALER TO DO PDI! Dealer will say they did a full PDI they don't. Better to find problems before you sign on the line. I tow with a Ram 2500 diesel. Ram now offers a 6.4 Hemi in 2500 if you prefer gas. Just realized this thread is 6 weeks old

We did not notice during the PDI that there was no shower. When we had it home and noticed there was no shower we could not remember if the display had one. We were pretty sure it did, but not positive. Thought about saying something to the dealer but not sure it would do any good. We never specifically asked for an outdoor shower. Should we mention that we thought there would be an outdoor shower or is it to late to bring it up?
