i have a few soft spots in the roof and wondered if there was enough room for adjustments in the roof top air and vents to add another layer of wood and new epdm roof material over it. was hoping not to have to pull all the old off to save a little time. i dont have a place to put it indoors when i do this so hoping i coukd do it this way. any thoughts or ideals would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much
Just my opinion here. I'm not an RV construction expert. But, I believe that if you have soft spots in the roof, that would indicate that the wood and structure under the roof membrane has some rotten areas.
If it were mine, in your situation I would wait until several days of rain free days are forecast. Then remove the old membrane. Replace the rotted structure underneath. Then put on a new membrane. If these things are within your skill set.
But, that's me.
Or, you could cover it with a big tarp until spring? I think that just adding more material to the roof will make it heavier, and will make it more top heavy.
