RV Mattress

The mattress in our 2015 Wildwood 29QBDS is not cutting it. Any recommendations?

I didn't look up your model, so my apologies if this doesn't apply. But, true to marketing - my wife and I like very different firmness for beds. About 5 weeks ago, I ordered a Sleep Number bed. Their turn around time is total crap right now with upgrades to their computer systems, but I'm really hopeful for the bed.

If you are referring to the factory mattress that is like a dog pad. This what we have done, bought a 4" thick memory foam mattress from Walmart, trimmed it to fit into our bed and place it over the dog(factory) mattress. I don't have any complaints since then. This is the cheapest solution, the more expensive one is to order the real bed mattress, more expensive, by at least few hundred dollars.

Night Stone - Did you get a futon mattress with your unit like I did? I gave the futon mattress away before even trying to sleep a night on it.

To the OP
I brought a mattress-in-a-box from Wal-Mart that I find really comfortable. Many members have commented that by adding a thick memory form mattress cover/pad it will make a big difference.

Actually we still have it, its underneath the memory foam mattress, it helps with fitting of the regular bed sheets somewhat.

I am sure you still can get one, place an ad to find out if anyone who is getting rid of it for free.

We had one made for our 5er. After a couple of years of complaining we decided to get one made by the people who made our queen size mattress years ago, that is now in the spare room. They made it, we use it, we like it, problem solved. We did try the foam mattress topper but it didn't work for us. It wasn't cheap but we sleep better now and our bodies don't hurt from sleeping on it. They just went out of business this year after a great many years. Good thing we had them make our king mattress when we did.

I have had the sleep number bed at home for almost 10 years. We now have the same in the RV only in a short queen. Lucky for us Camping World was having a sale on the Sleep Number and we actually got a price better than the Sleep Number Store.

I actually like the hard as rock travel trailer mattress because I pair it with a 4" gel memory foam topper.

DH is a big guy and rounds off the side edges of a memory foam mattress since he likes to sit on the side of the bed to make sure he is awake enough for secure footing before walking. Over time, that smooshes down the memory foam.

I had purchased a Wayfair bed in a box memory foam mattress for our previous TT and it did not hold up at all. So, I was glad to see the crappy mattress. The $100 Serta topper from Big Lots is a great solution.

We also added the memory foam topper and love it. The factory mattress by itself was ridiculous.

We ended up buying this from Amazon:

Robot Check

What a difference. A little tall for the "bed" but worth climbing up into it

We bought a Serta 3" Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper and it is very comfortable. Had to cut the length to fit the mattress but a sharp razor knife only took about 5 minutes....
