Television Mount

I noticed after our first outing that the TV mount I installed was coming out of the wall. When I ordered it from Amazon it didn't show up in time for the dealer to install it, so I did it myself. Using the sticker on the wall as a guide, I used my best guess and I thought the screws were hitting solid wood. After the install of the backer plate, the wall protruded outward about a quarter inch.

Long story short, the screws were coming out when we got to our first stop (about 8 hrs driving). The TV is a lightweight 24" dealio. Am I missing the studs in the wall, or whatever they put in there? When I retightened the wood screws they seem to go back into solid wood and the wall is no longer protruding. Do you have a "stud finder"? If not, for a few bucks you can get one at any hardware or big box store. This is a great tool to find studs in your RV as well as at home.

Hmm the location for my TV seems to have a hunk of plywood behind the paneling for the mount to screw too....But I do not trust the mounts...I bought a roll of Velcro at Walmart and I screw a piece above and below the TV long enough to wrap around the front of the TV. The mounts alone let the TV wobble like crazy. Wobbling like that puts a lot of stress on where the TV attaches, so the Velcro makes it more solid....

I have a stud finder somewhere. When I get back I'll check and ensure I'm in the studs.

That's a good tip on the Velcro straps! I'll probably do something similar.

Thanks all

Yep, bouncing your house down the road can cause problems.
I have done several different things to help support items:
Putting a larger board behind mounting plate(mounting bracket to board and board to hall) this way you can catch 3 studs. You can use a peace of nice wood and stain it to match.
A simple one, if the screws are just backing out, is to put some glue on the screws. I like gorilla glue because it expands as it dries. This only helps if your into good wood.
Strapping it down during transport will help a lot and should probably be done anyway.
Or just take it off while transporting, just one more item during set up and tear down.
Just a few different things I've done

I also used the Velcro trick. Really helped a lot.
