Wheel bearing Grease
Can I get some opinions on the brand/type of bearing grease that is best used in a Heritage Glen TT with Dexter Easy lube hubs? Prefer grease gun tube.

I used Mobil 1, got a tube for my gun and a cannister to repack the bearings. Good stuff, exceeds the manufacturer's requirements.

If it's never been torn down and still factory dexter grease then you will need a lithium complex grease as this is what dexter uses. All info can be found on their website.

Lucas Red ‘n Tacky #2 is a good lithium complex grease. Available at Walmart for five bucks a tube.

X2 on the Mobil 1, but there is a list of approved lubes in the Dexter manual.

I didn’t know WD40 made grease but the specs on their extreme pressure grease look pretty good. Good reviews on Amazon. Also lithium complex base.

Any kind of axle grease - lithium is probably best.

I’m no expert by any means, but I have read that you should not mix different grease types. If Dexter used a lithium complex grease in your axles at the factory, then you should use a lithium complex grease, unless you clean all old grease out before repacking with a different grease.

X3. Use it on my Sidewinder hitch also. Great stuff, especially in our heat.

Red N Tacky here also.
I do recommend removing the hubs and cleaning them out the first time you service them. That allows you to check the condition of the hubs, brakes, bearings and races and start off with new clean grease.

We have not had very good braking on the last couple of trips so I decided to pull the wheels. This is what I found in the first wheel, haven't got to the other three. I know most folks recommend replacing the brake shoes after a mess like this but I'm being cheap. Talked to a couple of local mechanics about cleaning them and followed their recommendations so I'll see.
You could see where the shoes had barely rubbed the drums so I believe these brakes haven't been doing their job since almost new. Always thought the trailer brakes weren't very effective, now I know.
Two things have slowed me in doing the rest. Old age, the price of a grease seal at our local NAPA store, nearly $13, so I ordered the other 3 double lip seals from E-Trailer, $18 delivered. Should be here by next week. The local one is only a single lip seal, he wanted $28 for a double lip seal.
Hope you can see the grease on the shoes and all over the mechanism. It was a bear to clean up, brakeclean, gunk and my pressure washer got the shoes and backing plate and associated parts clean. The drum got a good cleaning in the solvent tank and them washed and air dried.
I packed the bearings by hand with a Mobil high temp grease for wheel bearings, no more grease guns on these wheels. Very tacky stuff. I had only given them 2 or 3 pumps last summer when I was replacing the tires so I don't think it was a case of over greasing.
