I couldn't agree more with this statement, I had to have the dealers near me locate one- in fact when I was looking there were only a handful in the entire state of Ohio that were available on dealer networks in the color I wanted with the Max Tow Package, most the Ecoboosts were either the 3.31 axle or 3.55 axle.

As in an earlier post I would suggest that you check the VIN. My ecoboost has the larger mirrors, brake controller, 3.73 gears, LT tires and does NOT have the max trailer tow package.

Also look at the GVWR the max tow package truck will be in the 7700 or 7800 lb range. Also look for 7 lug wheels. This will have the highest axle ratings.

Not sure if this has changed for 2013 ..in 2012 ..you could order a F150 supercrew 6 1/2 box ...3.5 ecoboost...max tow pkg...and.. Heavy duty payload pkg...2 seperate things ...a 4x2 with a 3.73 limited axel would tow 11,300 lbs...with a payload capacity of something like 2,600 lbs...it would have 7 lug wheels and e-rated tires ..almost ordered one my self ...then found my 2012 F250 diesel instead for less money..the F150 would have been "new" ..but my F250 diesel only had 3,100 miles on it

Are you sure? I've never seen a Max Tow without the elephant ears. Regular mirrors can have the tow package and a controller. Are we talking 2 different things here?

Looking at Fords web site the max tow package has the large mirrors, electric brake controller and heavy rear bumper. Then they offer the max pay load that has the LT tires and 7 lug wheels, etc. To get the 11, 300 towing you need booth with the EcoBoost.

Isn't one obvious sign the transmission cooler mounted on the radiator? I'm thinking that's part of the max tow pkg.

Ford offers a regular trailer tow package that is just receiver hitch and electrical plug. If you go to Ford.com, build and price, you can see what is included. You can take VIN to Ford dealer and they can tell you how truck is equipped. Good luck.

I'm not up on all the gear ratios and the differences. What is the differences (ability) of the 3.31, 3.15 and 3.73?
I will be pulling a 30' trailer about 8,000 (+,-) lbs loaded. Might occasionally run through mountains but mostly flat ground here in MI.
Thanks,
Jason

I assume with that setup you have kids so you will most likely be looking for a Super Crew. If you are going to pull it on a regular basis, you would want a Max Tow and the Max Payload package with that much weight, but more specifically the payload. That puts you automatically at the 3.73.
The 3.15 and the 3.31 would not be good for that much weight and specifically the payload would more than likely be exceeded before you ability to pull the weight.
Just my 2 cents.

I higher the number, the more "leverage" the motor is provided to move the load. The higher number rear end will allow for higher engine RPM; and thus, more HP and torque available for a given road speed.

Max Tow & Payload Pkg
I have the Supercab, 6.5' bed, 3.73 gears, 6-lug axle, 7700# GVWR with a 2000# Payload rating. The truck has the max tow package with mirrors, brake controller and transmission cooler.
The Max Tow & Payload truck has an 8200# GVWR & 2390# Payload with the Supercab, 8' bed, 7-lug axle. My friend, a light duty contractor traded in his F-350 diesel and is very pleased with the fuel costs.
I wanted the max payload (8' bed) in order to haul with a fifth wheel/gooseneck hitch, though would not fit in my garage and the DW said no way.
Of note is the 2390# payload is more than the (2200#) payload in our 2009 F-250SD, 5.4, 3.73 rear and the truck rides nice and much lower fuel costs.
{QUOTE} I will be pulling a 30' trailer about 8,000 (+,-) lbs loaded. Might occasionally run through mountains but mostly flat ground here in MI.{QUOTE}
Agree, the max tow and payload packages would make the 8K# experience more enjoyable with a 1/2 pickup. Also, you could add a bed cap and haul even more stuff (Provided you stay within the ratings).

Exactly !! To get a F150 thats got everything...Its almost certain that you will have to order everything to achieve 11,300 lbs Towing and a 2,600 lb payload capacity... The Max towing pkg and..the heavy duty payload pkg combined !! Dont look for one of these in a dealer search .. you might as well be looking for a uni-corn !! Especially ...in any preferred color you may want..but its the only way i would want one.. F 150 XLT Super crew ..3.5 ecoboost..6 1/2 box.. max towing pkg and heavy duty payload pkg.. 4x4 maybe or 4x2 with ..3.73 limited slip axel..7 lug rims ..E-rated tires...am i missing anything ??

We tow a Flagstaff 829FKSS with our F150 The truck has 25000 miles in it andabout 9000 0f that was towing the TT. It handled the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia like a dream. Ditto for our trip around the Great Lakes.

I would go 4x4, besides the obvious benefits, it also gives you the 36 gallon gas tank. Not available on the 4x2

For 2014 Ford is coming out with F150 Tremor sport truck with a 4.10 rear. Wonder if we'll see that on a tow package too.

Hello.. I bought a new 2013 FORD F150 STX super cab, 2wd, (5.0L, V8 with 3.31 electronic locking RR axle) a few weeks ago. I love the truck and always wanted a FORD full size.. always. I traded in a 2006 Nissan Frontier.
My Nissan actually did a pretty good job pulling my WILDWOOD 22RBXL. Camper weighs about 3500 pounds empty.. probably about 4300 loaded (no water).. but I was looking for the added comfort of pulling with the bigger FORD. The Nissan was rated to pull 6100 pounds.. the FORD: 8100, The Nissan was 265hp.. FORD: 360hp.. plus going from V6 to V8.
However.. after doing a little (after purchase) looking.. I kinda wish I had bought a truck with the 3.55 or 3.73 axle. I don't really understand what the difference is.. but i see that the towing capacity is about 1000 pounds more than the 3.31.
Anyway.. I already have the 3.31.. and it I think it will pull my present camper with no problems.. just wondering what, and how much.. you guys are towing with the 3.31 electronic lock rr axle? I might wanna move up to a bigger travel trailer someday.
I love my FORD... guess I just want to make sure I made the right choice.. over all.
