Wildwood 28DBUD Hitch Weight

Hi all, I am researching for our first TT and was intrigued by the Wildwood 28DBUD, however turned off by the dry hitch weight. It claims a dry hitch weight of 805#, but a dry weight of ~5900# and GVWR of 7700#. Am I missing something here? Ultimately when specing my trailer, I have been assuming tongue weight would be 12% of trailer GTWR. Should I do the same here or scale higher based on the initially higher dry hitch weight?

Anyone have any actual hitch weight numbers for this trailer?

I appreciate anyone’s assistance. Just when I think I’m getting the hang of this ...

That model has a mid kitchen and a rear bath which are mostly over or behind the axles. Depending upon where the water tanks are, the tongue weight may not increase as much as you think it will. You'll need to take a look at an actual model to see where the tanks are and make an assessment of how you will load it for a trip. Good to see someone planning for the real weight and not the dry weight.

Thanks Woo, but shouldn’t the hitch weight be ~12% of the trailers gvw regardless? Or am I looking at this wrong? Or is there something super special about this TT? I called and spoke to them, but got the feeling I was simply being told what I wanted to hear. Thanks again for the direction.

They vary quite a bit. I have seen from dry ratios of 10-15%.

My dry weight ratio is lower than when packed because all my storage is in front.

Unloaded is 11.3% and loaded 16.1%. I have to move things around to take weight off the TV when fully loaded.

Toy haulers will have a very large swing as well.

If I remember correctly the hitch weight on my dbud runs 900-950 loaded other than empty tanks.

The gray and black tanks are at the very back of the trailer (the toilet is against the back wall). I will have to look when I get home but I believe the fresh water tank is right between the two axles if not slightly to the rear. So any liquids in the tanks will not add to the hitch weight. I keep meaning to take it across a scale but have not yet. I will say that my F250 towes it significantly better than my Tahoe did.
