I agree with the others who like using a pair of 2kw generators. Aside from the weight advantage, I find that more often than not, I am not running A/C, so I only need to fire up one of them. Less wear and tear, and less noise.
There was a time, when if you wanted a reasonably quiet generator, Honda and Yamaha were the only game in town. These days Champion, Boily, Kipor, Lifan, Generac, and several other have inverter generators with specs that are virtually identical to the Honda and Yamaha. The difference is that they are around half of the price.
I don't know about servicing all of them, but I do know that Champion is an American company. Parts and service are readily available. I have two of them and have never had a problem. They start easily and run well. I have had them along side the Honda, and could not hear any difference.
As long as people keep buying the big two, they will continue selling them at inflated prices.
